When Crickets Cry, by Charles Martin

Reviewed by Amy B

What a page turner this novel ended up being, especially during the last third of the book. The story is focused around a very ill little girl, Annie, and a man, Reese, who is hiding from his past. Although their initial meeting seems coincidental and not very telling, before too long the reader finds out there is much more to it. The mysteriousness unfolds and all the pieces start fitting together.

"When Crickets Cry," gives the reader everything from drama to humor and from despair to joy. I found myself laughing one minute and crying the next. Those with a weak stomach may have to skip the instances of descriptive medical procedures, though. But, those parts do add a tremendous amount of drama to the story.

Due to be released this month, anyone looking for an uplifting story will surely enjoy it.
