What's IN THE Bible DVD Series
Reviewed by Rachel Lower
I was sent a review copy of What's In The Bible, a puppeteered video series from the founder of Veggie Tales, Phil Vischer. The main commentator is anchorman Buck Denver who may soon find himself as beloved as Bob and Larry. I was sent DVDs 1-2 for review. They were each about an hour long, plus bonus features. Not at all a copy or repackaging of the VeggieTales series- this series is original, with an original format. These first two DVDs covered Genesis and Exodus.
The gist is to get children interested and excited about God's Word, and I think they accomplished that. Parents may also get the effect of wanting to dust off their Bibles, and should be in for a few laughs and find the program entertaining as well. It appears the series will be on orthodox grounds, however some may want a head's up that they don't shy away from controversy. For instance, as per literal creation days they took a centrist approach. Some (who are firm on their position) may conclude they skirted around it, some may think the opposite being that it was even brought up. I suspect those wider controversial issues will be few and far between, thankfully. Perhaps limited to Genesis and Revelation.
I have only heard high recommendations about this series and from what I've seen, stand in agreement with them that this is a worthy tool to engage children with. As a site we recommend most emphatically for parents to be knowledgeable and on fire for God's Word themselves so that that can both model this thirst for the Word and have answers ready for the many questions children come up with. While we live in a time with many brilliant supplements to this effort, perhaps nothing can beat a parents example.
