Whether you are traveling with your kids for the first time, have a few family vacations under your belt, or are a seasoned family vacationer, you will find plenty of helpful tips in the first section of "The Travel Mom's Ultimate Book of Family Travel." It covers the general planning of the trip, as far as figuring out where to go, how to get there (and still be sane!), who to take with you and how to make the most of the experience for you and your kids.
It is in this section Emily discusses multigenerational vacations. Having experienced it myself numerous times, if it is an option for your family, I'd definitely recommend doing it at least once. Although it means there will be at least a couple more people who will likely frustrate or irritate you, I think the positives of it usually far outweigh the negatives.
The second and biggest part of the book covers different types of vacations and destinations all around the U.S. and abroad. With so many options, planning your family vacation can be a bit overwhelming.
This section is loaded with helpful information for novice and experienced vacation planners alike, who are faced with decisions such as whether to vacation in a warm or cold weather location. There are also numerous all-inclusive resorts and family cruises from which to choose. Does your family want to relax with little to do, stay very busy and/or try some high-energy adventurous activities? Do you crave the quiet, peaceful experience of camping in the great outdoors or will you find more enjoyment staying in a hotel amongst the hustle and bustle of a big city? Do you have time to travel far from home or do you need to stay nearby?
If you know exactly where you want to go, what you want to do and how you are going to get there, you probably won't find this book very helpful. But if you aren't 100% sure about what to do, you may find just what you need to create a fabulous vacation for you and yours.
