The Baby Name Wizard
Reviewed by Rachel
The Baby Name Wizard is a new twist in the baby naming business. Author Laura Wattenberg has compiled years of research, analyzing hundreds of baby names and statistics, coming up with computer generated connections and trends for each name.
Rather than the usual "Rachel is of Hebrew origin and means ewe" line most baby naming resources come up with for my name, The Baby Name Wizard says:
Rachel
Popularity #28
Style: Biblical, Nickname-Proof, Timeless
Variants: Rachael, Rochelle, Raquel
Sisters: Sarah, Leah, Emily, Megan, Rebecca
Brothers: Aaron, Benjamin, Nicholas, Matthew, Adam
*Rachel is a biblical classic that reemerged as a hit after decades
of hibernation. It doesn't sound like a quaint heirloom, though -
it's thoroughly contemporary. The name hit its modern peak with the
Friends character Rachel and her eponymous hairstyle. This is one of
the most flexible and risk-free names you can choose.
(Popularity chart included - showing a peak of #15 in the 1990s!)
Not only can you reference a popularity graph for each name that you are interested in, you'll also find lists of fine tuned suggestions for other names you can use for babys siblings, or perhaps spot a name that will trump the current favourite.
As an added bonus, Laura shares naming rules, tips, nicknames and
name lists to further aid in your search for the perfect baby name.
I had a blast looking up the names of family and friends and
planning the names of my future children. This is a revolutionary
new way of finding a name for baby! I don't believe I will ever go
back to the plain old "origin & meaning" method!
