A Virtual Assistant is basically any business person that can work primarily or completely over a wire. That could be a grant writer, web designer or even a legal secretary.

For every work-at-home in sales attempt gone awry, I would guess that there are a dozen VA's who are succeeding in an online business. Virtual assistance is skyrocketing. As companies see the benefit of outsourcing to avoid employment costs and responsibilities, the Virtual Assistant workforce will only grow in numbers.

Christine Durst and Michael Haaren could be considered the pioneers of the Virtual Assistant revolution. Their book "The 2-Second Commute: Join the Exploding Ranks of Freelance Virtual Assistants" is the ultimate guide for starting a career as a

VA, or giving a false start a jump start by learning from their many years of experience. They offer invaluable advice on starting and maintaining your home business.

From what to expect when you are giving birth to a new business, to pulling it all together into a well functioning VA lifestyle, as far as I can tell Christine and Michael have covered all the bases. As a web designer myself, I found this book extremely helpful and I am already putting to practice much of the wisdom offered in The 2-Second Commute.

There are even tips tailored to parents with Children at home, and other family dynamics of starting a new business.
