Shaoey and Dot

Reviewed by Amy B

Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman have written a book for children called Shaoey and Dot. The colorful and detailed illustrations are by Mary Beth's brother, Jim Chapman.

The main characters of this touching story are Dot, a caring ladybug, and Shaoey, an abandoned baby girl. The story begins with Dot finding the baby and accompanying her on the journey to the orphanage. After a few weeks, they discover a family has come to adopt Shaoey. The two friends continue and end their journey together in a new home in another country.

The inspiration for this story is the Chapman family's own experience adopting the first of three little girls from China. It is such a sweet story, is very easy to read and captivated my rambunctious three-year-old boy.
