School Starts At Home

You can correctly assume from the title, School Starts At Home, that this book deals with the impact parents and the home environment have on their children's success in school. There must be stability in the home for children to learn their best. You need to be aware of their stress level and help your children learn to plan activities so they have balance in their lives.
In the first several years of your children's lives, skills for reading, writing, reasoning, math and communication are forming. Ms. Fuller stresses that it is important to encourage pretend play, arts and crafts, energy expending activities, cooking with mom, and reading. Unfortunately, it seems like many kids today spend the majority of their time watching television or playing video games instead. It has also been shown, throughout the learning years, that reading, writing, music and math are all important to a child's success in school. Suggestions are given to help encourage your child to learn about and enjoy these subjects. As parents we need to encourage good study habits in our kids, while taking care not to be doing the homework for them. It is also important to be involved at school and keep the lines of communication with your children's teachers open and used.
I think this book would be especially helpful to newer parents. I truly believe if you can encourage and nurture learning from an early age, you can instill a love of learning in your child. School Starts At Home is packed with a lot of information and many suggestions for you to help your child to love learning and have fun while doing it.
