Relief for Hurting Parents: How to Fight for the Lives of Teenagers: How to Prepare Younger Children for Less Dangerous Journeys Through Teenage Years by R. A. Buddy Scott. Published in Lake Jackson, Texas, by Allon Publishing. Originally published in 1989 in Nashville, Tennessee, by Oliver-Nelson Books. 237 pages

Relief for Hurting Parents by Buddy Scott is an essential read for every parent. The author, Buddy Scott, has been counseling parents of teenagers for well over a decade.

Most parents feel like failures at one time or another, and for some that 'down and out' feeling is constant! 'Relief' is here. Along with a breath of fresh air and encouragement, Relief for Hurting Parents offers supportive, practical advice for parents. In the first part of Relief for Hurting Parents your confidence in yourself, as a parent, will be boosted.

"Good parents can have trouble with their teenagers." Most of them will at one point or another!

Buddy Scott goes on to outline the 'Towers of Convictions' and the 'Towers of Strength', which when applied can make a huge difference in the lives of both the parents and children. One example from the Tower of Conviction is #11 "We will see the wrong crowd as enemy #1", and from the Tower of Strength #3 "the family's tower: Familyhood supplies irreplaceable assets". Parents can learn how to productively discipline their children with natural consequences delivered with consistency and steadfast love. Parents can also discover how to equip their children with good conscience, wisdom, confidence and self-esteem. The writing is very straight forward and to the point, making Relief for Hurting Parents easy to follow and refer back to.

The tips in 'Relief' can easily be applied to parenting much younger children. Parents of young children or preteens can prepare for life with a teenager and take steps to prevent any forthcoming disaster. The teen years are full of stumbling blocks for your children. It is easier to lay down a solid foundation before the flood than to be constantly repairing and replacing your foundation during the deluge.

Relief for Hurting Parents is also a must read for parents who have a teen in rebellion, who they fear they are losing, revealing the consecutive steps and strategies to rescue their dangerously rebellious teen. Parents can find out what to do from the onset of trouble, and how to find the right help when the problems are more than any family can handle alone.

Myself, I gained insight into my own tumultuous teen years. I also learned more about my own perhaps-underdeveloped self-discipline and the influence of worldly desires on my life, which I did not expect for a parenting book. I feel confident that when the time comes and I have a teenager, our entire family will be prepared. No doubt by then my copy of 'Relief' will be dog-eared!
