Parenting the Heart of Your Child by Diane Moore

Parenting the Heart of Your Child is one of those child rearing books that you must read more than once, because the author has provided so much insight.
Diane Moore draws the connection between the moral growth of God's people (Israel and the Church) and how it relates to our own growth from infancy through adulthood. The Bible shows God's people transition from Adam and Eve's one rule world, to a basic understanding of the Law (eye for an eye), and finally to Grace being the fulfilment of the law (turn the other cheek and forgive.) Following the same pathways, shown in great detail in her book, Diane shows us the process by which we can raise principled, Christlike children. The way God Himself raised us!
Diane divides the moral landscape of our lives into 3 levels, 6 stages. Christians should strive to attain stage 6, "where truth and love meet." Much of society is stuck in stage 4, defined by post-modernism, where majority rules and morals are "all about us."
The moral development of a person starts at "It's All About Me," which parents of toddlers will readily understand. It turns into conformity, and eventually to majority rules. If you're a Christian, your moral growth will reach stage 5, refined by the principles of the Bible, and eventually stage 6, full understanding of love and grace. (Matthew 22:37-40)
Diane points out that a person can't skip any stages, or comprehend beyond the next immediate stage. Morality is a learning process, and children and even adults must continue to grow toward Christlikeness.
Her tips can help parents identify the stages their children and they themselves are making decisions by. Parenting the Heart of Your Child will help parents prepare and guide their children through all moral development stages so that when they leave home they are mature Christians, equipped for the world.
This is perhaps the most biblically based parenting book I have read so far.
