NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible, published by Zonderkidz

Reviewed by Amy B

We all know how difficult it sometimes is for adults to read certain versions of the bible. Well, I think it is safe to say that kids have an even more difficult time with those same bibles. On the other end of the spectrum, the children's picture bibles are wonderful as an introduction to the bible. However, paraphrased, extremely shortened stories are not the same as reading God's Word. The NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible was written based on the New International Version, but is an easier to read study bible. Written at a third grade level, it is geared towards children age six through ten. It was originally published in 1994 and was updated in 1998.

Parents can read along with younger kids, to help with words they may not know. It is important for kids to know God's Word but a challenge to keep them reading something that isn't understood. Interspersed throughout this bible are 500 questions kids ask about the Bible and the answers to those questions. Verse references are provided to support each of the question and answer sections.

The NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible has a table of contents and at the beginning of each book, it gives pertinent information such as the author, a brief synopsis of events, to whom and/or why the book was written, when certain events happened or when the book was written and what we learn about God. The bible ends with a dictionary and topical index. Until a child is ready for all the adult versions that are out there, this study bible would be a great tool in promoting personal spiritual growth.
