Gardening with Mommy

Recently, I was sent a copy of "Gardening with Mommy," by Kristen Joyal. I must say I'm quite jealous of Ms. Joyal's green thumb. The book is packed with a wide variety of garden projects and tons of beautiful color pictures. The general topics covered in this book are theme gardens, container gardens, outdoor gardens, indoor gardening activities, gifts from the garden, holiday gardening and gardening resources.
There are so many creative ideas for theme gardens, such as the "Chocolate" garden, the "Rainbow" garden, the "Wizard of Oz" garden and probably my favorite, the "Pizzeria" garden. For each garden, there is a materials list and detailed instructions for creating your garden.
One of the container gardens I'd like to try growing is the "sweet potatoe pie" garden. Utilizing some chicken wire and landscape fabric you can create a container garden that will bring a pretty nice sweet potato harvest, at least when Ms. Joyal cares for it!
However, the best reading in this book, for me, was about growing plants from items you buy every day in the grocery store. I've unsuccessfully tried to grow an avocado plant before, but I now know of an alternative way to attempt to make the seed sprout. I think I'll try my hand at growing one of the citrus plants and a pineapple plant, too, and if I succeed, I'll try some more.
My daughter is always wanting to grow things, so this is definitely a book we will be referencing often. Who knows, maybe one of these days it will spark some new ideas that will be all my own.
