Dine Without Whine

I recently was sent a trial issue of "Dine Without Whine", written and published by Christine Steendahl. For a few dollars a month, she sends you a weekly dinner menu and a couple ideas each for brunch and dessert. Also included with each dinner recipe are suggestions for side dishes to compliment each meal. A real time saver, especially for moms who find a hard time being diligent about meal planning and/or just can't get into the planning themselves. Another feature of this service is it includes your grocery shopping list for the week. All you have to do is print it off, add any items you need for breakfast, snacks and/or lunches and you are all set to head to the store.
In the issue I received were dinner recipes for House Fried Rice, Western Mac, Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks, Ham and Scalloped Potatoes, Oven Fried Parmesan Chicken, Pepperoni Stromboli, Beef Stew. The brunch and dessert recipes were for Orange Cream Fruit Salad, Zebra Cake, Lindsay's Cookies, Baked Peach Oatmeal, and The Captain's Eggs. My family tried four of the dinners, one of the desserts and both brunch recipes, and my husband, son and I liked them all. My daughter is a little picky nowadays, but even she enjoyed all but two of the seven menu items we tried. Most of the ingredients for the recipes were items I usually have on hand. I think the only items I didn't have on hand for the recipes we tried was the shrimp for the fried rice recipe and the steaks.
This is a really affordable service for only $4.50 month. I couldn't imagine anyone not saving a lot more than that at the grocery store by buying exactly what you need for the week and, therefore, not letting any food go to waste. A lot of time is also saved because you don't have to meal plan on your own and all your recipes are right there, together. Just print out the newsletter and you are all set for the week. Generally, my meal planning doesn't include a lot of new recipes and I'd say time is the reason why it doesn't. Whenever I add new(er) recipes to the menu, I have to get all the different cookbooks out and determine what ingredients I need for the week. Then, each night I have to pull out the cookbook for that particular meal to follow the recipe. I'm guessing that is why my husband was so inquisitive about the service Ms. Steendahl offers, we are in a meal planning rut and I think he was pleased to have more variety last week.
If you are in a meal planning rut, have never planned a weekly menu but would like to have one, or just don't have time to plan out your meals, I'm pretty confident you would enjoy a subscription to "Dine Without Whine." ***At the time this review was written, a free 1-week trial was being offered. If you are even considering subscribing to this newsletter, it would be a great opportunity to try it, out with no risk involved.
