A Busy Woman's Guide To Prayer By Cheri Fuller

Reviewed by Amy B

As I pulled this book out of its packaging and saw the title, I knew it was no accident it was sent to me to be reviewed. Some of you know how much more I've taken on within the past six months. I try to manage my time as best I can, but there just never seems to be enough hours in the day. I juggle a couple things around here and a couple things around there. I think I'm finally getting it right and then something happens to mess up the progress I've made. I definitely know what order my priorities are suppose to be, but it sometimes just doesn't happen the way I plan. In fact, I think most of us moms, and women in general, have many times in our lives when we struggle to get it right.

Likely, the strongest message I received in reading this book is that Satan enjoys making us feel guilty and tries to use that guilt to draw us further away from our heavenly Father than we already feel. For instance, I pray and talk to God throughout the day, but sometimes I have trouble bringing to fruition the quiet time I desire to devote only to Him. With my four year old usually getting up at the crack of dawn and the kids I care for during the day arriving shortly after…well, quiet is not the typical atmosphere in our home. In the evening, after the kids are settled into bed, I feel exhausted and head to bed myself thinking I'll just get up earlier in the morning and have my time. Unfortunately, after a night of insomnia, I either don't hear the alarm, or if I do, I can't wake myself up enough at that moment to actually get up out of bed. I'm explaining this shortcoming of mine because although I do often find short bouts of time throughout the day to say a praise or ask for something in prayer, lately I've been feeling guilty when I can't find a significant amount of quiet time. The time that I know would do wonders for my spiritual and earthly life.

As Cheri so strongly stresses, God gave us prayer as a gift, not as an obligation. It is something that I know, but often need to remind myself. God doesn't want us to pray out of a sense of duty. He just wants for us to seek and know Him. Packed with personal stories and plenty of references to scripture, to get you into His word, this is a great resource for any woman who is feeling like she is being pulled at both ends and everywhere in between.
