Basic Verses and Chapters for Scripture Memorization: The Gospel of Jesus Christ

By Rachel

Gospel Verses to Memorize We are privileged to have the bible available to us "for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16). We are often encouraged within it's pages to put His words He's laid out in His book deep in our hearts; "Thy word have I hid in mine heart." (Psalm 119:11a). In the next few months we'll be posting verses related to various important topics along the same format as the following starting list of verses about the gospel for scripture memorization.

"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved..." (John 10:9a King James Bible)

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (John 14:6 ©English Standard Version)

"Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." (John 3:18 ©English Standard Version)

"Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." (1 John 5:12 ©English Standard Version)

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 ©English Standard Version)

"As it is written: 'None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.'" (Romans 3:10-12 ©English Standard Version)

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God..." (Romans 3:23 King James Bible)

"If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." (1 John 1:10 King James Bible)

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23 King James Bible)

"...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8 ©English Standard Version)

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16 King James Bible)

"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." (1 Peter 2:24 King James Bible)

"For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" (Romans 10:13 ©English Standard Version)

"...because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9 ©English Standard Version)

"Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out..." (Acts 3:19 ©English Standard Version)

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 King James Version)

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8:1 King James Bible)

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9 ©English Standard Version)

If you're up for the challenge of a longer text to memorize, the full chapters of Romans 8 and Isaiah 53 also come recommended.

In these last days the gospel is constantly under attack. Many people who call themselves "christ followers" nowadays are just like the "followers" in John 6:66. If they are really pressed with the words of God (and one day they will be pressed), they do not actually want to believe Him. Especially concerning hard words such as Christ drew the line with in that incident - the first recorded mass apostasy since the virgin birth. And it is by design that this verse is the only NT verse that is numbered "ch6v66". The gospel will be abandoned by many "christ followers". I'm mentioning this so that you don't "wonder" when people you thought were fellow believers turn to some other Jesus, some other gospel.

Believers, please sow His words including God's plan of salvation in your heart. If you feel being simple/ignorant on these "details" will protect you now, such a cop out may be one's destruction later.
