Default Generous Son

Our eldest son is 7, will be 8 in December. He's always had a very soft, giving, generous heart

We try to encourage these traits in our sons, and remind them that they are very blessed, and there are plenty of people in the world who are not as blessed as they are. Our eldest in particular seems to be quite moved by the plight of people in third world countries.

Anyway, dh took the boys to work with him 2 weeks ago (something he does once every school holidays). He works for a Christian organisation that does overseas aid/relief/development projects and works with refugees. There is a program for regular giving for overseas relief and development that our son heard about while he was there. He was so excited about it, he wanted to participate. So, dh spoke to the guy in charge to see if there is a minimum monthly donation, and was told any amounts are fine. Our son has kept on at us telling us he wants to do it, so it was set up today. He is their youngest ever contributor! He gets $2 a week pocket money ($8 per month), and he's decided he will give half, so $4 a month!

He got his newsletter today, a letter welcoming him, telling him that he's their youngest partner, a folder, etc. He was so excited! They included some back issues of newsletters, and so he wants to "back pay", as he put it

I am just so, so, so proud of his generous nature! We didn't suggest it at all, it was his idea, and he just wouldn't let go of it - kept on about it until dh spoke to the guy at work and got it set up. It just makes my heart melt that he is showing such generosity, compassion and selflessness at such a young age! God is certainly touching his heart, and giving him such compassion for those with less! What a blessing it is for dh and I to see it happening!
