I am scheduled for a c-section on March 21st. I had one with Wes as a emergerency after 17 hours of hard labor. It was so quickly decieded and urgent that I really didn't have time to be worried. This time, I have time to think about it. I hear the recovery is easier the second time, but of course I am still nervous.

Three of my four births were c-sections and I remember the anxiety. You will know more what to expect this time around, but the anticipation can be troubling. I will be praying for you! If you haven't already you may want to come up with a birth plan or think about any ways you'd like to try and personalize the experience. For instance you could request a mirror and that the drape be lowered if you'd like to see the moment of birth, you can request that baby be wrapped and allowed to stay with you in the OR if all is well, you could even request that weighing, bathing, etc. be delayed until you and or dh can be present. At the least I would insist that dh be admitted into the nursery for these procedures as often this is not the case unless pre-approved. I opted for an epidural as opposed to a spinal for my third section, this allowed me to head out of recovery faster and led to my being mobile much sooner than with the other two. The pain control was just as good. Because they do the epidurals before they admit you to the OR (at least in my hospital) this also avoided dh and I being seperated. If you have a different doc and/or hospital this time around I'd also suggest that you make sure previous surgical notes are adequately reviewed. With my second section they tried to use the same external incision but found they couldn't reach the internal incision from their entry point and had to make a second one, ouch! How exciting that you'll be holding your baby soon!

Thanks for the advice. My doctor (and a few friends) said the second one is usually easier to recover from than the first, so that is good. Plus, I won't have been through 17 hours of labor like the first time.

2 of my 3 were C-secs. With my first sec. I didn't have to take any pain med after we left the hospital. With this last one I found myself to be a little more sore, not pain but just sore. The day after I was up and took a shower by myself. Just take it slow and don't push yourself. A c-sec is still surgery so take the opportunity to let others wait on you. Just sit and hold your precious little one! I can't believe mine will be 3 mos. old soon.
I did have more anxiety with this C-sec and I think its because I knew what was going to happen. But in the end I was in recovery a lot less time than before. During my section my dr. had a student in with him and I listened to him explaining everything to her as he did it. It was pretty neat. Try to get as much rest as you can today, keep taking your vitamins. I'll be lifting you up in prayer for a calm, peaceful spirit, a speedy recovery and a wonderful birth expreience. Enjoy your newest addition!! Stacie |

Hi Julie! I'm sorry i just now saw this but wanted to say that i had the same thing happen to me. I had an emergency c-section with my first after a long labor and many complications with my second i had a planned c-section. I had the same emotions you are now experiencing. Feeling nervous and anxious and all but to be honest it was not bad at all! Since there were no complications the surgery was just in and out. 30 min max and i was awake for this one. LOL! So that helped (i passed out with my first) The staff of nurses were super duper nice to so that helped. I'll be praying for you! And know that since this isn't an emergency c-section it's so goes by sooo much smoother.
