Default Song for a dedication service

We will be having a dedication service at church for our little girl soon. I wanted to have a special song to sing or play for her. Does anyone have any ideas of a suitable song. She is 10 months old. To give you an idea of the sort of thing I was looking for, the song below was the one that we had at my son's dedication a couple of years ago (the verse about her son seemed appropriate at the time).

Carolyn Arends - Surprised by Joy

Every once in a while on a summer night
The sunset glows and I see the light
And when the stars come out it dawns on me
There is holy ground underneath my feet

Surprised by joy
Awash in love
Just one taste of grace
And I'm overcome
You've got a way
Of breaking through
'Til I'm surprised by joy
I'm amazed by you

Just the other day when I kissed my son
I was blown away by what you've done
'Cause when he smiles at me with his toothless grin
All at once I see your hand on him

Surprised by joy
Awash in love
Just one taste of grace
And I'm overcome
You've got a way
Of breaking through
'Til I'm surprised by joy
I'm amazed by you

And when I least expect it
You surround me
You astound me with your love

Surprised by joy
Awash in love
Just one taste of grace
And I'm overcome
You've got a way
Of breaking through
'Til I'm surprised by joy
I'm amazed by you

Yes, actually...

Quote:
Erin O'Donnell \ Hold On To Jesus

You're a little piece of heaven
You're a golden ray of light
And I wish I could protect you
From the worries of this life
But if there's one thing I could tell you
It's no matter what you do
Hold to Jesus
He's holding on to you

The world will try to tell you
That might is more than right
That beauty's on the outside
And being good's a losing fight
But remember what I've told you
Because the world will make you choose
Hold to Jesus
He's holding on to you

Hold on to Jesus
Cling to His love
Rest deep in His mercy
Whenever things get rough
Don't lose sight of His goodness
And don't ever doubt this truth
That when you hold on to Jesus
He's holding on to you

Hear me dear Jesus
Rock this little one to sleep
Keep her close when she's scared
And give her grace when she is weak
I know she'll stumble
But I know she'll make it through
If you hold to her just like
You said You'd do
Hold her Jesus
And she'll hold on tight to You

That's EXACTLY the song I was thinking of! I couldn't believe it when I saw you posted it! <big smiley> That song is a real heart-melter. We have the lyrics framed in my daughter's room.

We're in the southern US, but it's popular around here to play "In My Daughter's Eyes". I *think* Martina McBride sings it. It's a country song, but it is pretty. If we had a daughter, I think we'd pick something different, though.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Fingerprints of God by Steven Curtis Chapman!! Everytime I sing it to the Goobers I always cry. Although not sure if you'd want to use it for a Dedication Service (our Church did). Good luck & blessings to you!

Fingerprints of God by Steven Curtis Chapman

I can see the tears filling your eyes
And I know where they're coming from
Theyre coming from a heart thats broken in two
By what you don't see
The person in the mirror
Doesnt look like the magazine
Oh but when I look at you it's clear to me that

I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know its true
Youre a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And youre covered with the fingerprints of god

Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you
Fashioned by God's hand
And perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He's been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living breathing priceless work of art and

Just look at you
You're a wonder in the making
Oh and God's not through no
In fact He's just getting started...

similar, but different.
A dedication service is a formal ceremony in the protestant church where the church challenges the parents to raise the child in a christian life, teaching the ways of Christ, etc.

Scripturally taken from Jesus' presentation to The Lord in Luke 2:21-22 and Hannah's dedication of Samuel in 1 Sam. 1:24-28

HTH,

~Kana

Thanks Kana! I was raised in the Lutheran church and that is where Rhyanne and I currently worship so all I am used to is Infant Baptism. I will have to re-read the scripture that you showed me. Thanks!

Cherri Keaggy has a great one for a girl. It's called "beautiful little Girl' and is on her cd 'My Faith will Stay'. I actually have the piano music and love it. Played it for a friends dedication and it's awesome. It talks about raising her up in the Lord and longing for her to be a 'woman who loves her maker'. If you're interested, pm me and I'll type you the lyrics and don't mind getting you the song. Her website is www.cherrikeaggy.com, although I didn't see a clip of the song on there, but you may be able to hear it at your local christian music store. It's an old cd (1996) but I would totally recommend this song for a dedication.
