Default Seasonal Allergies

My 5 yr. old ds has been sniffling, sneezing, itchy eyes, etc. I gave him allergy medicine today and that didn't seem to be helping so gave him some Motrin too and that seems to have eased some of it. Is there anything else I can do that will help? He's staying inside but I have windows open because it is warm here. I hate to close things up and turn on the air just for this (and it's starting to cool down so running the air doesn't make much sense right now). Just trying to think of what else can be done to help this clear up so he feels better. He had a rough night last night - was warm and miserable with the nose thing going on.

Which allergy med did you give him? Good idea to get an air purifier... cheapest a walmart. Also, I use a cool mist humidifier in the room we're in most of the day. The purifier and cool mist humidifier help me keep my kids off of the benadryl. Allergies are a genetic comodity around here

This is just a suggestion, but I would give his bedding (including pillow) an extra wash to remove any pollen/mold/dust mites that have settled on it so he has an easier time sleeping. I do this for myself actually because i have seasonal allergies too, but clean, fresh bedding really helps with the nighttime.

For some natural helps- get locally made honey. . .I'm not sure the amount to give- I give emme a teaspoon a day-ish? Make sure it's local as thats made of the pollen from local plants that are probably part of your son's allergys. You'll get the "stuff" from the bees process of turning the pollen into honey and it helps with our allergys- that's what I've heard anyway. Also, you might try homeopathic allergy medicine. It will have less severe "side effects" (none at all=).
Thanks cheeseburger- that was good advice! -ren

All I can say is... ACHOO! That's been my day today. Allergies are common at my household. We have an air purifier and use a humidifier (sometimes). David takes Zyrtec and Singulair every night. I ditto what Cheese said about cleaning the bedding regularly. That has been "really fun" lately due to the extra pollen in the air. Our car is COVERED even in the car port .

Crunchy, my mom always used to make me tea with honey to soothe my scratchy throat.
