Default Just say no to...

the flu shot. Especially if your pregnant.

(A safer and more effective alternative is vitamin D)

I'm not big into vaxes, but I never was sure why me being pregnant means that I really need the flu shot. Seems like the risks out-weigh the benefits, but I haven't done a lot of research either.

They reason they push the flu shot when you are pg is bec if you do get the flu you could m/c. The old flu shot I felt so-so about but these newer flu shots for swine and bird flu where the companies got permission in the past to go forward w/o proper trials and no liability if something goes wrong are scary. I think if they separated the strains so you could decide which shot to get instead of a 3-in-1 that would be much safer for those who selectively vax.

I have never gotten the flu shot while pg and I have been pg while working at public school = germ central, BUT when I was in college my boss was pg and she got the flu and she did miscarry and that was really sad. That is the only time I have ever known someone that happened to in the past 12 years, though, so it is a risk but not as much of a risk as they make it out to be, imo.

I'm not a big vax person, but I have gotten the flu shot the past two years. I work at a skilled nursing facility and the flu can run through the place like wildfire. However...I did get the flu a few months later. Then I think, "Why do I get the shot if I'm going to get the flu anyway?" The answer I get is, "It's a different strain" or "That was for last year's flu".

Thing is Christine, the flu shot does not prevent you from getting the flu. They say it's 60% effective in certain strands. So it does not give you immunity as people assume it does. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/vaccineeffect.htm

Worst yet there are a lot more strands of the flu out then what the shot attempts to protect you from. The real world application shows it to be more like 1% effective. http://naturalsociety.com/3-reasons-...der-flu-shots/

So by getting a flu shot you're putting known poisons (mercury for one) in your body for a 1% better chance at not getting the flu. http://naturalsociety.com/flu-shots-...level-mercury/

A better alternative would be to take vitamin D. It can help lower your chance of getting the flu by almost half without the nasty risks. http://www.activistpost.com/2012/01/...o-disease.html

Chrissy, I know the vax does not prevent you from getting the flu, at best it just reduces the severity of how ill you will get IF you catch the strain(s) you were injected with. It is a gamble, just all the other vaxes you get as kid that they only recently discovered do not last until adulthood (it makes me laugh when they suggest adults go get boosters for everything all over again) I am not suggesting anyone should run out and get it, I am just not anti-vax; I am not trying to argue or persuade anyone to get it or not get it, I just think everyone should get as much info pro and con before they make their decision. It is my understanding that in single-dose flu vax there is no thimerisol anymore (I asked and my ped said she used single dose thimerisol-free only when she asked if she could vax me bec the babies were too young then to get it - this was years ago) but there is still thimerisol/ethylmercury in the larger multidose containers. I know flu vax's also have been tentatively linked to Alzheimer's but not sure if that is also ethymercury related or something else. No one in my family has gotten the flu shot in years - the kids have never had them done, but if we were not blessed with the ability to homeschool, I know I might have to reconsider a lot of vaxes we've never had, even this one. That is really good to know about the vitamin D, though. It is so hard to get enough sunlight this time of year. I know there are other sources, but the sun is my favorite one bec it helps with my eczema.
