![]() when he wakes up, it's all matted shut like a kitten, he's not running a "fever" but does have a hay fever, and seems just over all miserable. I'm thinking allergies, as he was outside a lot on Th, (it started Friday) but my mom and dad say it looks like pink eye. I don't know. I know that since I've been so worried about his eye and focused on it, one of mine is starting to burn and water, but it may be mind over matter, or just my mama's heart. ETA: it is pink and kinda puffy, too. just can't see it much in the pic |

It does look a lot like pink-eye. It is easily treatable, but highly contageious! You should get it looked at right away.

I think I would treat it like pink eye - they even have over the counter drops for it now which might be good since it is the weekend. Wash hands a lot, disinfect door knobs and anything he touches to help keep it from spreading. Try not to touch your eyes either unless you have just washed your hands. Sometimes having a wet cloth (can't remember if hot or cold is better) on the eye helps it feel better - when done with the cloth, throw in washing machine, do not reuse.
That's all I can think of right now. Haven't had to deal with it much and not recently. Janell |

spoke to dr. alburo on the phone and he said to clean it with warm compresses every four hours or so, give him tylenol or motrin PRN and have him in first thing Monday. He said to keep the others away from him until then, just in case, and to keep him OUT of anyone elses bed, to put blankets under him when he's on the carpet, couch, etc. so guess we'll wait it out till MOnday and see.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME, ANYONE CHIME IN WITH YOUR OPINIONS, ~Kana |

I'd do the med-assist 24 hour place myself...pink eye is sooooo contagious, it would be worth the few extra bucks to get it checked out immediatly.

Ok, well, my kids all have severe allergies, but we thought this was going to be pink eye. This is our order of events
Thursday night: took the kids outside, Patrick played on a blanket on the ground. Got off the blanket, ate a leaf, got some leaf particles in his eye went inside, washed it out, all was good. Friday: Eye (the one with the leaf) matted shut when we got up. Cleaned it out, no problem all day. Saturday: got up, eye matted shut, cleaned it, stayed weepy all day. got worse at mil/fil's house, (we were outside a lot, and they have inside dogs) Sunday: both eyes were NORMAL. Not red, not weepy, nothing. Like two normal, everyday, big o' blue Patrick eyes. Sunday afternoon: Brian cut the grass, but we stayed inside with the windows open, they got a little wattery when he was cutting near the house. Later, my parents were here and we took him outside. He stayed in my mothers arms, but we were only out there MAYBE five minutes, and his eyes were so wattery, I'm sure he couldn't see good. Came in, they started clearing. Monday Morning: they're fine and dandy doo. no pink/red, not weepy, nothing. just like yesterday a.m. They're just patrick eyes. We have kinda informally deducted that it's allergies, but I will be calling the ped today. We were going to to take him in, but on this notice, it wouldn't be OUR doctor, and with the allergies our kids have, we prefer to see her. When gabe was little, we had an associate dr. tell us that he was too young to have allergies, that a baby can't have allergies. I very impolitely asked him, "then why is the ALLERGIC to milk and soy protein? isn't an allergy and allergy regardless of what it's of?" of course, I had his tongue then, LOL. |

So glad to here things are good! I don't suppose that a babe his age can take allergy meds.
