Default chores

so, what type of chores, how often and all that do your six year olds do?

Gabe has NO responsibility passed school work and he needs structure in his life.

Franklin is almost six. He gives the dog water and food, puts his own clothes away and helps with the vacuuming. He also clears his dishes from the table after meals and snacks. Once a week he strips his bed and remakes it (with help from his sister).

My 2 dds don't have set chores, but on a daily bases they need to make sure their dirty clothes are in the hamper in the laundry room and their toys are picked up. Then when i'm cleaning for some reason they like to help especially my 6yr old so i will let her do the dishes (then i will put them in the dish washer when she's not looking ) and i let them vacum and i will give them a wet rag and let them wash walls and windows ect..whatever i can do so they feel like they help on a daily bases plus it really cuts down on the time i have to spend cleaning, and i get more time with them.

hopefully this will give you a few ideas

I was thinking that maybe having him do two or three "dailies" each day

Our dogs will only eat if Brian feeds them, so that's out of the question.

He does help me with laundry and picks up the living room when I ask him to, but I was thinking to maybe make that HIS duty. To pick the toys up from the living room after the little boys go to bed and to bring clothes to and from the laundry room.

maybe even having him clean his sink and toilet?

what do you ladies think?

Each of my kids have chores to do. Autumn, who is 5, feeds and waters the cats daily, makes her bed, picks up her room, puts her dirty clothes in the laundry room, and helps clean the playroom. Trent, who is 9, feeds and waters the dog, gets the bathroom "puppy proof" for Sophie every morning , makes his bed, takes his dirty clothes to the laundry room, picks up his room and helps clean and vacuums the playroom. They also have to pick up and put up anything they have gotten out during the day.

I started very young with mine i.e. making them pick up after themselves and helping to clean. I think that is why they don't mind helping out now.

All of mine are expected to make their beds, take care of dirty clothes and tidy their rooms each morning. That's ages 9, 7, 5 and 3.
Then the 5 yr old gathers bathroom and laundry room trash. The 9 yr old takes all trash to the dumpster. The 7 yr old takes care of the dishwasher. They are all responsible for helping keep the living areas tidy.
When we have had pets one would feed the dog, the other the cats.

Those things are done before breakfast.

If time is left before breakfast is ready, they get a start on school work (as we home school).

Then they also load/unload/haul laundry for me. And put it away after I fold. They also will dust and vacuum when asked. And they are responsible for keeping the basement tidy.

But as for regular chores, we don't have many. I'm still trying to figure out what to do here myself. I have them wipe the bathroom from time to time, in between my major cleanings. They sweep the floors as asked as well.

I'm just still looking for *what* I want/need them to do regularly and on their own.

But at least you can see a few of the things that my kids *do* whether it be regular or not.

My 9yr old makes sure the cats and dogs are fed and watered daily. He picks up the toy room and the bedroom each night and is responsible for keeping his bathroom wiped down. I let him use clorox wipes to clean his sink and toilet. I will scrub the toilet bowl and bath tub. I'm also starting to let him help me w/dinner. He sets the table and helps me clear it and helps with the dishes sometimes. Other times he helps out by playing with ds2 to let me get things done quickly!

I think it's good to let them have chores. It helps build responsibility. He will also help w/vaccuuming when I need him too. He's really great to help out when I ask! God blessed me well!

Each day my 8 yr old son puts his dirty clothes in the hamper and tidies the play room downstairs. He also has to make his own lunch for school and pick out his clothes for the following day. He is expected to wipe up the sink every day (we use the anti-bacterial cleaning clorox cleaning wipes) after brushing his teeth and doing his hygeine routines.

I often ask him to help me do the bed time clean up routine with his little sister Ella (she's 2 tomorrow )
