Default bad breath

Help!!! My ds has the worst breath you have ever smelled! I really hate to say that about my own son, but it's true. I'm at the end of my rope with things to try to get rid of it. I've talked to the dr about it because I thought it was his tonsils, but they are fine. Does anyone else have a young one with this problem? He rinses everynight w/listerine and it still doesn't help!

Have you tried having him brush his tongue? I make sure I personally do that every time I brush and I think it helps.

Also make sure he flosses regularly. The food build-up can leave odors, too.

I wonder what the dentist would say? I am sure they have heard questions about this problem from children and adults.

I was wondering if you had found out anything that helped his breath.

is you boy constipated? Has he had any health issues that required a lot of antibiotics?

My youngest had this problem. I tried multiple things. Took him to the dentist. They found nothing. I did some reading in my book "Prescription of Nutritional Healing". It mentioned being sure the bowels are cleaned and also a possible systemic yeast infection. So I started a regimen to be sure he was having good sized daily bowel movements and went to work on a possible systemic yeast problem.

I wasn't able to completely tackle it with supplements and nutrition and took him to the doctor. Despite being skeptical that it was a yeast infection ( usually only typically seen in children with serious medical problems, weakened immune systems and chroncially on antibiotics) the doctor prescribed an antifungal medication. IT WORKED! His breath improved immediately.

He now takes probiotics every day to keep yeast under control also a fiber pill at lunch to help with bowel movements as well a cal/mag/zinc pill to aid in peristalsis( I have a magnesisum deficiency and had problems with constipation all my life so I figured he might as well. Magnesium helps with that, hence milk of magnesia.) There is a yeast essential supplement I have gotten from Swansons Vitamins that has caprylic acid in it along with probiotics. I do give that to him and my oldest son who sometimes struggles with bad breath. I run out of it though and just use over the counter acidophilus when I do.

NO CLUE if this even applies to your situation, but that was my experience with it!

You know what Leslie? He has always had a constipation problem. Even when he was little he would only go about twice a week and we just contributed it to his eating habbits. He LOVES bread and cheese! But I never thought it could contribute to any problems with his breath. Can I PM you about some more advice? You have my interest peaked since I've not been able to get any results anywhere else. The dr and the dentist both tell me there is no "medical" cause for his breath. I'm almost at my wits end and he is at that age that he is starting to notice it himself and become embarrassed.
