if you had a known breech and no midwife available to help?
go to hopsital and risk "heavy handed interventions" and the battle of informed refusal? or go at it at home and trust all will end well? or stay at home prepared to call 911 and have them "wait at the door"? other ideas.... Thankfully now SOGC (ob/gyn ***'n)recommends vaginal breech delivery over elective surgery. However my midwifery friends tell me and research shows a method that is safer over typical hospital delivery methods. "Hands off the breech" is not always adhered to. d

I think I would do a lot of research and pray about it to see if I should stay home or venture to the hospital. If I felt like God was leading me to stay home and try it, then I would. If I did not get peace about that then I would consider a plan B. Would also try to coax the baby to turn around before the big day and pray about that also.
There are supposed to be methods for getting a breech baby to turn head down: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=140701 http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnanc...itionforbirth/ http://pregnancychildbirth.suite101...._a_breech_baby I have also heard that there is some kind of massage a chiropractor can do to help turn the baby called the Webster technique if you are not comfortable with an external cephalic version: http://www.icpa4kids.com/about/webster_technique.htm I don't know that much about delivering breech babies vaginally at home, but did recently see a footling breech homebirth video so now I know if your baby comes out feet first you are not supposed to push, you are supposed to let the baby come out on its own. I think footling and Frank breech are the easiest breech to deliver, but transverse is generally not recommended because if the baby does not eventually turn in one direction or the other it won't even fit into the canal. |

Personally, I would go to the hospital and do a vaginal delivery there. I have a proven pelvis (I had a 9lb 11oz baby go through this thing...so we know I have room) and I have now had three babies.
I think there are many things you should probably consider before you attempted a unassisted home breech delivery. I think it's important to know what type of breech your baby is in. The frank breech is the safest breech because the buttocks act a little like the head and helps dialate the cervix and open the body up. I think it's helpful to know the estimated weight of the baby. I also think you need to make sure that you are 100% (as much as you can imagine) ready to deal with and accept consequences that could possibly happen if you chose this delivery. I tell every mom who asks about a homebirth or asks about why we chose a homebirth that there has to be no doubt as to your choices if something were to happen to the baby, to mom, or both. I am not against breech delivery, but I think it's a tricky thing, and having someone around who is trained on how to handle breech complications and also having a NICU team around in case the baby gets entraped is also helpful. we chose to not have our last baby at home because of concerns about her blood sugar. It was possible that if we were at home and her blood sugar crashed, she could have gone into a coma. We were not ok with that consequence if it were to happen, so we decided to have Mak in the same hospital that we had Noah. I can honestly say, I pretty much had a homebirth setting at the hospital. My wishes were well known (I was very vocal about what I wanted) and respected. Last thing I suggest, like the others have, is pray, pray, pray. Make sure you are open to either way...the Lord has His perfect will, He will give you peace about what that will is if you are open to it. The goal is to have a beautiful healthy baby...sometimes that means being in a hospital, sometimes it means being at home. The Lord already knows, let Him show you the way! Blessings, Amber
