I would try and put him down after he poops. What time do you usually put him down for nap? Right after lunch? If you can wing it, I would watch his cycle and then put him down for nap after the poop. Our twins are morning nappers and at 21 months have finally almost always given up the afternoon nap now, but if I put them down in the afternoon for some reason one usually ends up pooping. They don't usually fall asleep and call out to me if they did poop, so it gets changed and then they are back to bed right away. (same with morning naps). I also notice that my kids tend to have a hard time falling asleep at bedtime (7:30 for the twins, 8ish for the older girls) if they have a nice afternoon nap or they sleep too late, so be careful of too late a nap. Shot myself in the foot many times with those late naps. LOL
Usually without the afternoon nap my kids all sleep about 11 to 12 hours at night, the twins can sleep an hour or so more too and then go down about two hours after getting up and take about a two hour nap. I sure am hoping they continue their naps, I can't imagine a 2 year old not napping, especially the twins.
I hope you can find a great solution!
Blessings,
Amber

buttercup....

I actually don't have him take a nap until 2/2:30 when his sister takes her 2nd nap.... and even when he does fall asleep it isn't til after 3 which means he sleeps til 5. I think we are just going to try for an earlier bedtime and no nap.

Glad this seems to be a current topic. I don't know if I need advice or just to vent and hear that I'm not alone lol. I've been praying about this. My son is 28 months and he is giving me a hard time about naps. Of course he thinks he no longer needs one but then 3:30 rolls around and he is super-crabby, restless, all that stuff. We've tried quiet time a few times but all the evidence shows me he still needs SLEEP. If he doesn't get a nap, by 3:30 he is a crabby, restless little monster.

He used to nap like clockwork from about 1 to 3 every day, give or take a half hour. A few times I have just relented and pushed his nap time back until 3:30 in the afternoon. The only problem is he still seems to need a good solid 2 hours, if I go in there at 4:30 and wake him up he's in a DEEP sleep and has a real hard time waking up. I could let him sleep til 5:30 but I don't want to push his bedtime back any later, he already goes to bed at 9:30.

Maybe there's something to the "doesn't need a nap every day" thing... I'm mostly just afraid of turning it into a daily battle and in so doing completely turn him off to the idea of napping or taking quiet time ever again :P

astasteel--
Sorry to hear you are also having trouble with your son's naps. My son cohen is 32 months. When he falls asleep it isn't until late either 3:30/4 and then he sleeps til 5:30. If you wake him he has a horrible crying fit. After weeks of him not napping he is getting daily quiet time (1 hour, usually followed by 30 min tv to give me some time to get things done or have my own quiet time) and his bedtime has been moved up. He was going down between 8:30 and 9 and now goes to bed at 8. He goes to sleep within 10 min now, where before, with a nap he would be up singing and talking for as much as an hour! Good luck and I hope you can figure things out so he isn't so cranky and you're not so frustrated.
