I have been looking for an informative book to give Gracie (who is nine) that will help teach her what to expect with her changing body. Today I found The Care & Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls. It's put out by American Girls, which is a bonus because she loves Amercian Girl dolls and I can trust how its written. Topics include: body care, body changes, hormones, acne, bras, eating healthy, menstrual cycles, etc. It seems to be just what I was looking for and best of all I found it at a thrift store for $1!!
I just thought I'd share in case there were other moms approaching this age with their daughters. So far I'd say this is a great book to read with your daughter! It's written very positively and I like how it doesn't make girls want to rush into growing older. It teaches them to love the body they are given and take everything in stride.

Read that one when I was entering puberty, and remember really appreciating it! It was very tastefully done. All the info. you need without making a young girl feel uncomfortable. Would definitely recommend it.

I'll definitely keep this in the back of my mind. DD is only 6, but I started developing breasts (quite painfully), when I was 8/9, so I know it won't be too long before we start having to 'talk' about things.

It just depends on when you think your daughter is ready, both physically and mentally. My daughter has already started "maturing" in areas at the age of 9 so I felt it was needed. She's also a sponge. LOL She loves to read and is soaking up lots of knowledge...reading several books a day. We've already talked about many things in the this book so it's not a big deal. But I am reading through it first myself before I give her full range....like Tara said. I do that with anything really though: books, movies, etc.
