Hello,
Thought I'd put this here instead of homeschool forum since it's not really homeschool even though it's school work at home. ;o) Jason just finished 7th grade (13 yrs. old) - his worst subject is writing. He actually pulled some B's in Language Arts for 3/4 of this school year - until his teacher left for another job and the sub just didn't know how to work with him. Anyways - has a summer learning packet from the school and 2 of the assignments are papers - one is a research paper. DH and I tried to go over directions for his papers with him and ask if he's got that part done but we just aren't good at editing and showing him how to make his papers better. (he got an F on his last paper - with our "help") so does anyone here have knowledge/experience with middle school Language Arts/writing or have a suggestion of where I could find a tutor that would help him with his writing?? You might check with the local high school. They might have students that could tutor.

My kids are not old enough to have had ELA instruction on that level yet, but maybe a mom who has homeschooled middle or high school kids will chime in, too.
I agree with Madre about seeing if there are local students who can tutor him. A lot of teachers and aides/paraprofessionals tutor on the side also, so someone from the MS or HS who tutors in English might also be an option. The only other "big name" tutoring place I always see advertised around here is Sylvan http://tutoring.sylvanlearning.com/ They seem to have a decent reputation but I get the distinct impression that they are extremely expensive. |
