I didn't read that in an email, Madre. LOL But I don't really want to debate the reasons for my belief.

I'm not debating you, Becca.

Just to add, the link wasn't intended to highlight the emails, but the response from the site.

he is home grown but, holy cow when i saw his name for the first time the terrorist thought immediately went through my head- judgemental? maybe but, 9/11 is still a little bit of a raw spot, call me crazy. I don't know becca- I was having even more extreme thoughts today that I'm trying to keep under control- like are we going to have to seek out anyone of that nationality and deport them to keep us safe? it was an army base for crying out loud!. . .in that way the presidents words seem wise to me. . .maybe the guy was a nut job working on his own. . .I'd also heard he was feeling picked on at his job and had recently saught out a military lawer to help him with that. If we don't jump to conclusions we will avoid what might be unnessisary panic and possible linch mobes. I think he realizes just how much we all feel about our miliary menand women. But, I will also admit the statement seemed weird to me too and you know I'm a supporter=) all sorts or weird and conflicting emotions for me right now.

read some more. . .I really think we'll find out that he's not working with anyone but, is just an extreme personality that snapped. I don't think this is a terrorist organized attack.

I was going to reply but couldn't explain how I feel about this whole thing. This video link to Fox New's O'Reily pretty much says it for me though!

Gosh my heart breaks with this story. Really at times I want to just go hide under a rock. I have the news on rarely if ever at home when my hubs travels for weeks and weeks but he has it on all the time (we are all traveling together for a couple weeks now). Much of it hard to swallow for me, makes my head swirl when I have enough struggle in my faith on my own, in my own daily happenings than to involve the world and all the people, crazy ones mostly that do things like this I kind of go numb.

Wish I could just pray the sadness away, tune it all out, but than I feel so out of the loop and not "up" on the news makes me feel un-educated especially with homeschooling so with stories like this Madre I struggle a lot. How do you cope? How do you pray? How do you discuss with teens/young adults? Just curious anyone can answer just a lot swirling around in my brain lately. Now with the shooting in orlando Florida, ugh, another angry person, sigh.

ashlee- good link=) I agree and I think further that we'll find hint s of blame toward us. . .look where he was- I wonder if they'll find that some of the other officiers harassing him were white christian males. . .and I completely agree that if he had been a white christian male- that wuold be the main news story.

makes me think of an article I read a few days ago that the movie 2012 detroyed world christian sysmbols because you "can" but, wouldn't destroy a muslim (prayer center I think) because they didn't want a war on their hands. . .and they say we're controlled by fear tactics seems 9/11 still is terrorizing us.

I guess, Renee, that you always have to be willing to discuss, but not necessarily to bring all of the sickening news to their attention. In a sense, you have an advantage, because your kids aren't going to go to school and get everyone's non biblical input about the news. But, given the internet, the tv, and the newspapers, you won't be able to completely insulate them (especially as they get older). I think it's always a good opportunity to point out how needy folks are and how they get desperate enough to do terrible things, but...there is ALWAYS hope in Christ. And, tell them that we're all needy. We all need Christ. Even those that don't go around shooting the place up, but always color inside the lines, are needy and sinful. It's also an opportunity to remind them of where to go (Who to go to) when feeling hopeless, sad or angry.

Now the Bible does speak about "wicked and unreasonable men", but even those men need Christ. We know that there are people that, for whatever reason, commit heinous acts. However, we also have seen some of those people come to Christ (even while on death row). He is ALWAYS the answer.

Just throwin' out a few thoughts...

I think it is important to keep an open mind. It is so easy to pass judgment before knowing all the facts. As someone who has had strong ties to family in the military I can tell you that there are quite a bit of military who are crude, crass and have no respect for others. It is entirely possible that this soldier was ridiculed and made fun of for any number of reasons. We live in a society today that is bent on raising oneself above others by putting others down. It is very possibly that this individual was depressed and depressed people can snap. Look at other shootings that have taken place at schools, work places, etc. 9 times out of 10 the person doing the shooting was depressed and snapped. They had had enough. I think that it is important to be open and understanding. Until the investigation is finished we won't know what was going on in his head. To call it terrorism would be tantamount to racial profiling until all the facts come in.

Being sympathetic to another doesn't change the fact that they did something so horrific. They still must pay penance. But God loves us all, even the murderer. We all need Him. We all need Him to save us. Just MHO.
