Itching and eczema

Ok I know about eczema because ds2 had it bad (often put on steriods during an outbreak because it was bad) and thankfully grew out of it, his never itched though, it just burned he said, the only soap that would help and wouldn't burn him was dove body wash for sensitive skin and only lotion was original eucerin cream, I could not use aveeno anything it would burn him and make his skin just get inflamed looking, so to the point lol with ds4 I am just sticking to that because his skin is sensitive to touch I am doing dove body wash and eucerin cream BUT it's itching(which we know is common with eczema) I have oral meds for ithing which I broke down and gave him last night so we can all sleep but it didn't work, i lotioned him up again still nothing I changed his pjs to something cooler since being to hot or to cold effects it, what can I put on him to help the itching but won't irritate his skin? I know I can bathe in oatmeal but I need a topical lotion or something to help with itching especially when it's 3am in the morning lol I hope I get a nap today lol

Cernea (sp?) lotion helps Anna when hers acts up as does Avena lotion.

I might try calamine lotion, it's an allergy outbreak from is almond reaction so we have steroids to help get over it, I might try aveeno on him in a small spot but I know it used to burn ds2, I haven't heard of cernea been recommend cetaphil but that stuff never worked for ds2 and it was too expensive the dove body wash is like bathing in lotion, I will try real oatmeal I was just buying it at Walmart next to the oatmeal soap I thought about real oatmeal just don't know why I never tried it lol thanks ladies I hope the itching passes he is looking better but skin still feels sand paper-ey he isn't as red as he was so he is improving

Steroid pills usually don't make the itching subside right away if those are the kind of pills he was given- pills are more for the long-term healing inside-out from the food allergy and then only if they are taken daily so it can build up in the system a little bit but topical steroid creams can give a little more fast itching relief outside. Calamine lotion might help too, I have never tried that, I would do a tiny patch test first to make sure it does not burn. What seemed to help the most when my eczema was at its worst as a kid was an oatmeal bath, then aveeno or vaseline mixed with my steroid cream or gel medication rubbed on my skin and then 100% cotton pj's covering me anywhere I was itchy - sometimes this meant longer sleeves, but if it is a light cotton it is not uncomfortable. Having my eczema exposed to air indoors when I was really itchy always did/does make it worse than when it is covered for some reason - I think bec my skin was so raw.
When it is warm out, laying in the sun for 10-20 min with no sunblock on the areas affected by my eczema always helped alot too, and that was recommended by my ped at the time. Also what helped me when nothing made the itching go away was learning to just gently rub the itchy area thru the cotton instead of just clawing my bare skin bec it helped make the itching subside a little without damaging my skin.

thanks ladies I got some ideas from yall that I will try he actually does better in the cool, anything outside(which is hot here) makes him go crazy itchy, I rub his back because I dont wont him clawing it, I got his finger nails cut short too, I used to have steriod cream, I told his pedi I was out and I just assume since she prescribe oral she wasnt going to let me do his steriod cream, or she just forgot lol,

thats how ds2 was all over his body, would bleed on his butt, behind knees under armpits and such so he was steriods alot but he did grow out of it on his body but his hands still crack and bleed so we grease his hands up at night(the only time he will let me), but he never itched it though, he always said it just burned, so this itching is new to me lol, I did vaseline with him for awhile until he was old enough to gripe about the greasiness and then I moved to the origianal eucerin cream which comes in a jar(its greasy but not as bad as vaseline), I think I might go back to vaseline just because even the off brand of that eucerin cream is $8, I had ds2 pediatrician tell me once(he was elder guy that passed away about 5yrs ago) but he told me once just lather him in crisco dont need to get all fancy lmbo so thats why I went with vaseline with ds2, I dont know something about smearing crisco on my kid lol
