Default Giving in to nursing after weaning

I weaned Spencer about two are three weeks ago. It was just getting so sore and he didn't seem to like what he got the last few times he nursed. He weaned pretty well, and only had about two or three days of asking before he gave up. Tonight he was sitting in my lap and asked to nurse, pretty adamantly, so I thought I would let him try to show him that there wasn't anything there and that he probably had forgotten how to nurse. Wrong....he nursed well, got really excited that I let him, and didn't want to stop. ha! Guess that back fired. I am not against keeping nursing him, but I just thought he wouldn't like it.

Anyone do this? Would it be super confusing to let him nurse again after I weaned him?

Thanks for the thoughts!
Amber

LOL! I agree with Esther... like a bike. Ya just don't forget how to do some things.

But yeah, I don't think he'll be confused. I mean, if he wants it/needs it/asks for it, AND you are OK with it... then why not? If something changes with any of those things, then you can reassess.

I kept thinking Grace was going to wean when I was pregnant. I had "18 months" in my head as the goal. Then I got pregnant when she turned 1. I thought it would be perfect since I hear a lot of kids wean around 5/6 months of the pregnancy. But. No. She didn't slow down. She didn't even seem to notice. Well, actually, yes she did. Around 5/6 months of the pregnancy she started to nurse, come off, ask for water, and then nurse again. HAHA! Nursing made her thirsty. I'm guessing my milk had changed around then.

Anyway, she is still nursing. She has slowed down some after doing it more for awhile. But even just now, putting her to bed. She nursed a few minutes, then banished me to the floor. LOL! She puts herself to sleep at night on her own now. I never thought I'd see the day!! AND Charlie likes to fall asleep next to me, not nursing, now. That is WAY unlike Grace. Amazing.

OK.... sorry.... babbling.

thanks ladies for your imput. I have just sort of went with his requests on it, and he has only asked once since. It's so cute to see how excited he gets, LOL, but I think he got frustrated that there wasn't much there. Guess in time I will see if he truly wants to keep on.
You ladies are a great support, thank you!
Blessings,
Amber

He put his mouth on it for only a few seconds though and said, "No milk mama."
Awe, that is too cute and sad at the same time.
I don't know what to do about my 2 year old daughter Bellina. She has always been my nursing champ. Except for the fact that she is a biter. She nursed all through my pregnacy with Blake. When he was born I still let her nurse but I had to put him first in feeding because that was his only source of food. Whenever I let her nurse first she would leave the well dry. He would get so frustrated. I ended up letting Blake nurse first then Bellina. After a while she stopped asking but just recently has been asking again and I'm not sure what to do.

I have never tandem nursed, but I did have to wean Em at 30 months because she never would have quit on her own. I had nursed her through Noah's pregnancy and it was a struggle some times because I didn't really have any milk so it was more annoying the way she nursed, but I prayed our way through it, and made it. When I got preggo with Mak, I just couldn't make it another pregnancy. She wanted to nurse all the time, and even though I struggled with the idea, I finally weaned her. She got sick a week later, so we nursed through that, but then I really weaned her. She had some behavioral issues that I think went along with the weaning that took her a while to get over, and I know she wasn't ready, but we survived and she is an amazing kid!

Spence hasn't asked to nurse much, and I usually can usually distract him. I let him nurse again a few times, but I got really crampy since nursing can bring on contrax, so I have been a bit hesitant because I haven't nursed him everyday since I got preggo. It's very different it seems when my body is use to it and when it's not. I let him nurse this morning to see if it would cause contrax again, and he only wanted to nurse for a sec...so that worked!

I say go with your mother instincts when it comes to weaning your kiddo. I think I KNEW Em was not ready, but I was and it sort of backfired on me. The Lord is gracious though, and He has blessed her!

Blessings,
Amber
