Yesterday our pediatrician gave us the go ahead with veggies. I was curious about who makes their own baby food and what are some of your favorite and not so favorite attempts. I spoke with a dietician last week and was questioning her about what, if any, veggies are not recommended for babies and she said none really as long as he tolerates them well. I think I am going to try avocado tonight. She said she thought that would be a great one to try so I will let you all know how it goes.

I agree, avocados are awesome first foods. I didn't give them to the twins because they are SUPER expensive here in the South, but it is always my first choice when it's available.
I don't think there really are bad veggies, asparagus might be hard because of the spikes, and I would peel the skin on stuff like apples. I would shy away from too much acidic foods in the beginning. My babies have always been super sensitive with acid and you don't want to give a stomach not use to harsh stuff that first. I say feed your kid what your family usually eats, that way they are use to the foods you will be giving them later on. Our kids love Mediterranean, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, and Vietnamese food because we always gave it to them young. Blessings, Amber

So we tried a baby led solids approach with Charlie. It has been a lot of fun! Basically, we just gave him whatever we had. If he could put it in his mouth on his own, he could eat it.
http://baby-led-solids.blogspot.com/ All that being said, with Grace, I did take the make my own food approach. We did avocado, squash, sweet potatoes, peas. Everything! She liked it OK but almost everything backed her little tummy up. So much so, that I had to keep backing off of solids for her. Then we'd do a few more then back off. Finally she was around 11 months and just started taking our food and eating it! LOL! That's when it was easiest! Hee hee! Have fun reading up and feeding your baby however you do it! Lots of fun!!!

I know what you mean Michelle, my kids have great gag relexes (not from me!) and they would always just gag what they were choking on.
The twins are now almost 18 months old and eat most of what we do, the hardest part is the mess.....Spence likes to throw, literally THROW food on the floor, near the floor, at his sister. It's a discipline issue that's gonna take a while. I am so sick of cleaning the floor! LOL I miss FEEDING them days! ha!! Blessings, Amber

Amber, when Grace about that age and was throwing everything, we started to make her clean her own mess up (OK, some of it LOL). But that helped to nip that one in the bud! HTH!

Yeah, we've tried that, but Spencer actually LIKES it, and laughs and thinks it's a game! LOL. I said I was going to stop feeding them and just give them TPN....who needs liver function later in life anyways.....
I have noticed that they do less throwing when we give them forks, so I am giving them bigger pieces and forks. Still messy, but a bit better! Thanks for the advice though...it's wonderful! Amber
