Default Weigh Down Diet by Gwen something...

I know this is a forum about toddlers, but...has anyone else read this book and tried it?? I read it right before I joined the YMCA. I was really getting depressed over my ds's temper tantrums and just packing on the weight this winter.

I really love the whole concept of the book. I've been trying to follow it to the "t," eating whatever I want until I'm full and not eating again until I'm hungry.

I started this about 1 1/2 months ago, and I've lost 9.5 pounds. But now, of course, the last 10-11 pounds are slower coming off. (Yuck) Has anyone done this long-term and lost all of their weight?

Thanks,
Colleen

I did this several years ago! This is awesome and really helped deepen my walk with God!! I TOTALLY recommend it!

Yes! I read her book about 5 years ago. I lost 10 pounds, but even better than that I learned to feed my heart with God and not food. I was able to really change my attitude toward food and eating and seek God more. I must admit I gained 10 pounds this past year, but I am working to get it back off. I think her plan is in line for God's plan for how we view eating and food. Her book was so "freeing" from all the diet mantra out there. In fact, I probably need to read her book again, since it's been awhile and the pounds are creeping on.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly how I felt; that it was "freeing" me from all the diets. And when I was about to start -- before I read her book -- I'm like: Oh, no, but we're supposed to have pizza Friday night, and we're supposed to go out to a birthday party, what do I do??? I was just not looking forward to the whole dieting routine.

So thanks again. I'm glad that it's worked so well for you guys!

It's really helped me to realize that for me it is a sin when I overeat to the point of STUFFED and then eat when I'm bored, eat whenever, etc. And that food really has been an idol for me. Also, I tend to lean the other way, like exercising compulsively. I had to realize that I don't have to go to the gym EVERY DAY. I can still lose weight by just not stuffing myself. Crazy!!! But good!

I have a couple of Gwen Shamblin's books and I know people that have successfully lost weight using the Weigh Down Workshop. As far as her theology, there may be some concerns. For example, I don't think she believes in the trinity. Her basic premise of turning to the Lord to meet our needs instead of turning to food is a good one, though.

Wow Madre, thanks for the info. I had no idea I will do some more research. Honestly, I think Gwen offers us a reminder, but it was God's word who enocurages that He can meet all our needs! God's Word is probably our best "diet book" we ever need!

Default Question about the book???

My son is 18 months old now and I am still trying to lose the weight. Having a C-section did not help. So I am interested.

(And for all of you mid-wife lovers... I did attempt for three days to have a water birth at home with my lovely mid-wife and ended up in the hospital. Thank God for doctors when your baby's neck is about to break with each contraction)

Madre is right in saying that Gwen Shamblin's theology is somewhat questionable....in that she doesn't believe in the trinity. I have skimmed the book before but have not read it. My friend who loaned me the book when she did it she lost 50 lbs. I want to pick it up again and actually read it because I am desperate to loose weight..I am just sick of being and feeling this way.

I went through a course of her about breaking strongholds and it was great...since then I found out about some of her beliefs and am cautionary about other things she's done, but if the diet info is working well foryou, then I would stick with it!!

that is what my problem is! I eat whenever. Not like I know I should be!
