I have had a really short luteal phase for some time now - usually after I ovulate, I have 4 days of high temps followed by 3 days of dropping temps so I know AF is coming, but this month I have had 5 days of high temps in a row! Even if I am not pg at least my luteal phase is getting longer.

I also have a question, if AF is due on CD 28 or 29 (Feb 5-6) and I ovulated on/near CD16, can I test on CD30 or should I wait longer?

It is exciting around here with all these moms ttc! You can start testing by 12 days past o ( even a couple days sooner if you are really impatient ) Just then you might get those nasty negatives or a squinter that you are guessing about. I tested between 10-12 days past the month I got my Bfp.

I hope your luteal phase is getting longer and you get your Bfp.

That's for sure...I remember being happy about that same issue before my DS was conceived.

Hope this is your month!

As for me...this will really be our first month "trying"...so we shall see.

How long have you been ttc?

If you LP is too short, that may be a reason why it's hard to conceive. But it's also easy to fix.

Thanks ladies! I will keep you posted. I will try to wait until cd 30 (assuming I get that far, which I might not), but if it is ok to test earlier that is good to know also.

We were only really offically "trying" in earnest from Aug-Oct 2008 and after that we decided that I would keep charting but not "officially" try - we decided not to go the progesterone route and leave it in God's hands to extend my luteal phase when it was time. I think part of the reason it was so short because we were/are still nursing&cosleeping and now that Sebastian is spending more time in his own bed at night my fertile signs are getting stronger. We'll see how the next couple of months go!

Thanks! Sometimes I feel [whatcrazy] about having another baby right now, but you gals help me to feel more excited about the possibility. Temps are still up. getting higher actually - I need to check my book to see if that has significance. Today is CD26, 4 days to go!

Edited to add:

This morning (2/3) temp was down - still above the coverline, but low enough that I don't think it will be going back up this month. Hopefully my luteal phase will last 2-3 more days so that it will be a more normal length from here on out. Praises that it is getting longer!

Has anyone ever heard of something called the "implantation dip"? My temp was down 0.4 degrees today and if it is down again tomorrow then that is the end of that, but now I am curious about whether or not any other women have seen one of these "dips" in their own charts. I googled the term and some people say they have experienced/seen it and others say it is a myth. I had never heard of it before today.

Temp is up 0.3 today, I am not sure what to think at this point, but still happy my luteal phase is lengthening.

Here is my chart:
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/256e76

Fertility Friend thinks my O day was d19, not d16, so that makes me 9 dpo instead of 12 dpo.

Hey, that's a nice looking chart! If your LP is the right length and BD was timed right, I'd say you have a good chance this month!

I agree with Fertility Friend, I think that you probably O'ed somewhere around day 19.

I agree with Ruth and Fertility Friend. Looks like you O'd around cd19. Praying this is the month for you.

Thank you for the encouragement! Ruth and Eva, is the O day always just right before the temp rise? I guess I tend to pin it more on my cf because that is more tangible. Sarah, if you ever want to try it- charting takes a little while to get the hang of, I am still learning new things, but it is fun learning about yourself and how God made our bodies work. I am going to check out your blog :)

I think this is the longest week ever, hope this play-by-play is not boring you all.

If I am only 10 dpo (days past ovulation), I should probably wait until Sat to test, but knowing me I will make it to tomorrow at best. I went to bed at 5pm last night, I was so wiped out after work. That reminds, me, must write a thank you note to dh for putting the kids to bed...

Nope. Charting is only accurate within +/- 3 days. So it's definitely not "always" on a certain day. Charting is accurate enough to use to avoid pregnancy, because the rules take into account the variability and add in a safety margin and it's accurate for achieving because the temp rise isn't what helps you to time BD, it's the cervical mucus.

The only way to know that you're O'ing for sure, is to either see it happening via some form of technology or to get pregnant, lol! Charting just gives you a reasonably effective way to avoid or try to achieve pregnancy, but it's definitely not THAT exact, as in pinpointing the exact day of ovulation. Does that make sense? Clear as mud? LOL.

From what I read in TCOYF, when your temp spikes it shows that ovulation was probable. The reason being is that once you ovulate your body starts to release hormones which makes your temp spike and your temp will usually stay raised if you are pregnant as your body will still be producing the hormones. Your CM is a good indicator that ovulation is coming up. So when you see the CM that's when you know to BD. But usually when your temp spikes it signifies that you have ovulated.

Thanks for that info Ruth and Eva! I will have to bookmark this thread so I can peek back at it when I forget again.

Ok I totally caved and tested today - BPN. I will see if my temps stay up and if they do then I will test again in a few days. What a rollercoaster ride this is!

Thanks tripper and plaid! My temps (http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/256e76) are still up, so sign of AF yet (no spotting, no cramps) but it still feels so up in the air. (today's temp is an open circle bec I woke up @ 7am instead of 5 like I do on weekdays) My luteal phase is 12 days long as of today, so no matter what happens, praise God that my body is getting back into its rhythm. If AF doesn't come today I will probably test tomorrow.

Very exciting!! Let us know either way!

Oh, and if you were referring to me (Sarah) in a previous post about temping, I was doing it for a number of months and now have a pretty good handle on when I O, etc. so I've stopped for a while so I don't get stressed about the whole ttc thing!
Sorry, that was a bit of a hijack... [halo]

I meant ButterflyKisses Sarah, but I understand taking a break. I took a chart break for part of last fall/winter because I was so tired of seeing that 7 day luteal phase.

This morning right after I temp'd (6am today) I tested and [cheer][cheerful][heartbeat] I got a BFP! It is really faint but it is so nice to see, finally. It is really faint, I am still trying to get it to show up right in a picture. I might run out later today and get a fancy test (been using the $1 kind) so it shows up better.
