View Full Version : wondering...

Ladies. This might stir something up... not sure. But wanted to put this question out there:
Is it really leaving it up to God when you follow your ovulation cycle so closely with charting and temping? And then analyzing everything?
I do get that some people have to do that but I just feel as though you give up control to God but then try to take it back by taking control?
Just not sure what the balance is there??
Any insights?

I've often wondered that myself. I mean NFP is a form of birth control imo...just a natural one... I guess it is better than the other alternatives out there. But then again - I believe each couple should pray and ask God to show them what he wants for their family. So if God's leads one to use NFP, then it would be God led, right?

I think it is okay. I think God gave us these signs to know and to have some sense of control. We still need to be wise when it comes to birth control. I do think that if a person begins to blame God and starts saying "i'm doing my part why aren't you doing yours"? then they need to step back because they are no longer trusting in God's will.
I struggled with this and then realized that I needed to step back and quit getting discouraged and upset each month. I still took my temps but I didn't obsess and two months later I got pregnant with Josiah.
so to answer the question. I think it is okay as long as you maintain the right spirit about it.

Not sure anyone has the capability to take control from God, at least as far as making a life is concerned. Plus I've tried almost every legit thing with no results. Then we've all heard of people trying everything not to get pregnant and it still happens.
I don't see any sin in NFP, adoption, etc., as long as a person is following God's lead. Deciding to step out on a partner just to have a child would be one of the sinful ideas related to ttc... and we even have stories of that in the Bible.. I do think it's really that simple.

I think it's ok if you don't get "obsessed" with it and if you are trusting God with it as with anything else... anyway... at the end is GOD and only GOD who can put life in a womb .... isn't HE?
We plant.... and He is the one who gives the growth
we work and He is the one who provides
we pray, go to the doctor, etc... and He is the one who heals

Ooooo. I like that. Good explanation of it!
God did give us brains to use but yes if it becomes a compulsion you gotta check yourself again.
Agreeing with Rachel, Esther, and Paloma!

My personal opinion, is that God wouldn't have given us so many signs of fertility if he didn't want us knowing what was going on, IYKWIM. God could've created fertility and conception to be a complete mystery to us, but He didn't. He made it understandable. For thousands of years, women have watched their bodies, learned from others, and pretty much known what was going on even before modern medicine and the invention of the thermometer. I have to think that God designed our bodies to give these signs for a reason YK? He doesn't do anything by chance. There is a purpose and a plan for everything.
Now obviously, like others mentioned, if a person gets super stressed and obsessed about it, then something's wrong...emotions are out of place....the person's probably not leaning on God and trusting him to take care of things.
I firmly believe that if God doesn't want someone to bear children, that they won't, no matter how much temping and charting or fertility treatments or medical interventions they try. Psalm 139 really speaks strongly to me about this subject :
"13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be. "
To me, I don't think it matters whether the mother knows nothing of temping and charting and just goes with the flow and conceives, or whether the mom does all she can to conceive on the days when she knows she's most fertile, because the Bible says the end result, that blessing, that child, was created by God and known by God and their whole history was written beforehand.

Very well stated!
