Does anybody here have experience with color blindness or color vision problems with themselves or their kids?

We're thinking our youngest son, who will be 3 in 2 mos., might be color blind. We've had alot of signs over the last year...and some since he was born, that point to this. Plus, I just found out that dh's family pretty much are all color blind to some degree, lol. (DH's brother, father, mother, maternal grandfather...and probably more) So since it's genetic, it would really make alot of sense with the signs we've been seeing.

I've done a little bit of researching online about how early you can diagnose this, and 3 to 4 was the age that was recommended. We are fully covered for optical insurance, so visits aren't a problem, I just don't want to bother with it if they'll end up saying something like "maybe...he's too young to tell."

I think the only reason I'd really like to know for sure, would be to help him with his schooling, and to know for sure that I could back off on trying to teach him the difference between certain different colors. Plus, then I could tell the grandparents to back off and not ask him what color the block was or tell him to bring them the red ball and so on, lol.
