Yes we homeschool but are seriously considering a votech school for when my children hit their senior year.

We are planning on looking into the school here in our district, son is in 10th grade this year so we have another year to decide.

This is sooo hard for me, we homeschool, and I don't want to do this yet if it is in the best interest for my kids than I should really look into this with an open mind.

Can anyone offer any votech experience. I believe this school we are looking at is an all day all year attendance type of school, not a half in regular public school with some votech days. The school is brand new and looks so modern and like it can offer great possiblitlies.

So I guess let the praying and researching begin.

Thanks!

My dh used to teach at a voc-tech school and graduated from one in fact. They are pretty common in Mass. where we grew up. He's a big fan of them. The model up there is cycles- you spend 1 or 2 weeks in your 'shop' and then 1 or 2 weeks in your classroom. Length of cycle varies from school to school. You get a basic hs education (have to pass same state tests, etc.) but also come out with some voc. experience. In Mass you spend most of your senior year doing an internship during your shop cycle. In Mass they are all 4 year programs though, you spend your first semester of 9th trying out a couple of things and then apply. I know they don't even except late trans. unless you're coming from another voc-tech school up north though.

Lots of homeschoolers here do a dual enrollment with a local tech or community college. Where the child finishes up some stuff at home but takes special classes at the same time. Is that an option for you?

Hmm you know what Beth I have no idea how they work, eeek never really gave it much thought. Just assumed, (yes one should never assume I know) that it worked like a regular public school system, double oops.

We'll have to research this after the holidays. I can see my son kind of finally changing a bit the past couple weeks, thinking future wise. So if a votech isn't an option at least the wheels are a turning! Yeah for wheels a turnin'!

Thanks for the heads up on this though. I am so happy you have some extensive knowlege on this, thanks, thanks thanks.

By the way Beth, have a very Merry Christmas!
