I was watching a VERY interesting programme called ONE which has been filmed in Australia - it involves a study on 10,000 families and their child from age 1 until they reach the age of 7.

Anyway, they touched on legitamate studies that raised stress levels caused by our modern fast paced life is causing cortisol levels to be raised in children - which is a chemical in our body which when overloaded shuts down certain thought processes and learning abilities and causes hyperactivity, impulsiveness, mind blanks, hightened state of emotion - it did remind me of a few scriptures in the Bible which speak of the end times as being a time of "great tooing and frowing among the people" and also about "their teeth are set on edge" - it got me thinking about how kids these days appear to be so agressive` and highschoolers are so violent. The child psychiatrist said the cortisol really razzes people up to a hightened state of alertness so they are ready to pounce etc.

they also stressed parents stressed homes play a big part but also children in childcare have massive doses of raised cortisol and kids with stay at home mums have much lower levels of the chemical and function better.

I was encouraged by this factor in being a stay at home mum.

the show is extremely interesting.
