View Full Version : What's going on with me?

Ok so Sophie is 6 weeks old today and I thought my lochia had finished and then all of a sudden a few days ago it came back. It's not light brown and a little amount. It's like dark brown and about 2 teaspoons.
Is that normal?

With Abby I finished my PP bleeding at 3 weeks. I know 6 weeks in normal but if it had already finished then why would it come back?
I don't think it's a period because the blood is not red...

Very normal, hon! I had PP bleeding on and off for quite awhile.

I had some bleeding even when my baby was 7 weeks old or so.
I'm ecologically breastfeeding and from what I've read, a woman who's ecologically breastfeeding can consider any bleeding withing the first 56 days postpartum as lochia or hormonal bleeding rather than a period. I was glad that I read that so that I didn't think that I was getting my period. But one thing that was a dead giveaway was the fact that there wasn't much of it. Certainly nothing like a regular period.

It'll stop soon, Renee!

I would be careful.... I stopped bleeding and began again a few days later and it WAS my period... it does happen, and I was only nursing my son!

has your activity level picked up? sometimes the body can be quite sensitive to that
Even if you had been going along at that level just fine for however long, sometimes your body just says 'hey, slow down, that's enough already!'

mine's done that a few times ;)

I understand. There's a lot of variables in nursing styles even among exclusively breastfeeding mothers. These are the 7 rules of ecological breastfeeding which is what I'm doing:

The seven standards of ecological breastfeeding

1. Breastfeed exclusively for the first six months of life; don't supplement with either liquids or solids.
2. Pacify your baby at your breasts.
3. Don't use bottles and pacifiers.
4. Sleep with your baby for night feedings.
5. Sleep with your baby for a daily nap and feeding.
6. Nurse frequently day and night. Avoid schedules.
7. Avoid any practice that restricts nursing or separates you from your baby.

That 56 day rule was mainly developed with this nursing style in mind.

I hope so. I'm not breastfeeding or expressing anymore though. So it could be a period...
We're fine with BC ... I'm not going to get pregnant!
But Paul isn't going to be happy. And I'm not really either. Well, I'm sure you can figure out why LOL

Well on Friday last week I did a TON of work and was really tired. But this only happened this week on Wednesday (it's Friday here). I'd almost completely finished (was really light brown and only a tiny bit) and then I sneezed while I was feeding Sophie and out came more blood that was pinkish brown. Now it's dark brown and more than it was when I sneezed. It's like sneezing brought it back. :?

Renee I love the pics of your babies! They are precious! If it's brown blood exclusively then it's old blood. I bled forever with dd and not very long with ds so I think it is normal to still be bleeding a little bit. It takes these bodies a while to get back to normal  . Stephanie :D

Thanks Steph :)

I guess it's only fair considering we get off having a period for 9 months.

I actually still had bleeding for two months or more. Not heavy just enough to have to wear a liner. I was nursing exactly like Ruth. I did have my 6 week check up with midwife & she said I was ok.. I actually had severe bleeding after DS was born with 3rd degree tears.

Just check with your midwife.

Thanks. I can't ask the midwife now because I've been discharged and referred to Plunket (they just deal with baby). So I'd have to phone my doctor.
I text Paul and told him and he said "you should phone and ask the doctor if it's normal" LOL I knew he'd say that.

I have a funny feeling it could be a period because I've had some crampy feelings but they've gone now so who knows. I guess if it is a period the blood will be red though.

That would be my guess! Just take her easy! [girlsmiley]

I would only worry if it was smelly - our bodies do such weird stuff post partum.

I bled for ages with the twins and it was only explained to me recently it was because I had two placental sites (and that came from my health nurse)

I am still off on at the moment but Tilda is only 4 weeks old on Monday, so that's fairly standard. MAN it is annoying! I so hate wearing pads they are vile. I LOVE my tampax !!

:x Well it is actually my period. Lovely huh. I thought it would be at least a fortnight still before I would get my first period. So basically I've gone straight from not even being completely finished my post partum bleeding to having my first period. Well, I'm glad it is happening now before my birthday which is next Sunday (29th).
