Lately Payton has had a little bit of a runny nose, seems as though that happens when he is teething, anyway, he does fine during the day but at night about 20 minutes after we lay him down he starts coughing which wakes him up, I'm sure it's from his nose draining into his throat and/or the extra saliva due to teething. We've tried nose drops which help clear his nose but that hasn't taken care of the cough, we also tried tilting his mattress and that didn't help either, we end up sleeping holding him upright and that is the only way we can get some rest [whatwacko] any other ideas?! At this point I'm just praying this passes quickly!

How about trying a humidifier?

I forgot to mention we use a humidifier :) Sometimes it seems to make it worse though  Thanks though :)

Sounds like it could be allergies. That is how my girls are. Fine during the day than congestion and cough at night. You might try vacuuming his mattress so as to get rid of any allergens. My girls also take Claritin at night when their allergies are acting up so maybe check with your doc if you want to go that route.

Hope you find something that works soon.

The cold/flu months bring out the oddest of symtoms in babies sometimes. Its too cold, than the heats too dry, than it gets too warm, than cold, than warm again. You know how it goes and it always did a number on my kids noses.

I would suggest maybe a couple baths each day, or even a warm shower when Payton is at his snottiest. That really use to break my kids up real well, and the snot would just come pouring out after being in the water.

We elevate the mattress (the wedge didn't do enough, so we used a full size pillow to get more elevation) and use a warm air humidifier (seems to help more than the cold and is fine as long as it's up high to prevent burns and cleaned daily) we also use a warm bath at night in a steamy bathroom to open him up and drain some before laying down and then we suction his nose good right after to get excess--use vicks on the chest/throat/under nose/bottom of feet/back of neck if it's really bad to open sinus cavities....
