View Full Version : My 36wks appt
1Cor13 10-18-2006, 03:15 PM Well had an u/s today babyis measuring 7lbs 1oz. dr says she will probably be between 9 1/2 to 10 1/2lbs full term. said baby was practicing breathing , which showed she was healthy. I think i might get him to induce me at just over 38 depending on size. I think he finally gave in (almost) cause dd and ds had to be induced and baby is good size. So we will see.
days are going SO SLOW....
Part of me is not sure now weather i want to be induced.. l mena i had to with other kids (water broke) but nothing else was happening. this time it would be before water breaks so I dont know what to expect, if it will be the same or not. But what are the odds of having to be induced anyways if I wait, since had to twice before??
BlessedMommy 10-18-2006, 03:43 PM I haven't been induced before but I've heard that the pain of an induced labor is far more severe than a regular labor. Just something to take into consideration.
Also, I think that the odds of being induced all depends on what your doctor's personal views on induction are. With my midwife, I would go to 42 weeks, before we would even start seriously thinking in that direction. Many doctors like to induce before then, though. However, there's nothing unhealthy in going one or two weeks past your due date since a full term pregnancy is 37-42 weeks, so that's more simply a preference on the part of the doctors.
However, if you have a history of big babies, you are probably likely to have another big baby. But you never know! And a big baby doesn't necessarily mean a harder time. My daughter was almost 9 pounds and I gave birth with no episiotomy and no tearing.
But in the end, you have to do what's best for YOUR health and what's the most appropriate for your situation. Good luck on deciding! I'll bet that you're excited to meet your precious baby.
breezykc2 10-18-2006, 04:05 PM Don't dread the induction...I had a full dose of pit because my contractions stopped midway....and I didn't have any problems and had no pain killers or epidurals!
1Cor13 10-18-2006, 04:35 PM well i have been induced before with dd and ds , but after water had broken and nothing was happening. so I guess it will pretty much be the same??
breezykc2 10-18-2006, 04:49 PM I was induced before my water broke and then they later had to break my water.....from what I've heard, basically the same scenario! Good luck!
buttercup_97140 10-19-2006, 01:33 AM One other thing to consider is that u/s can be up to two pounds off, usually over stating baby's weight, but really in either direciton. My friend had gestational diabetes (which I had, but not as bad) and they told her her baby was going to be way over 10lbs if not more at term, and that she would never be able to deliver him, so they went straight to a c-section, and when he was born, he was only 9lbs.....they were off by a lot.
Not to say your baby isn't going to be big....I had a 9lb 11oz baby, but she decided to come on her own.
Who knows though, maybe the Lord has planned some grace for you this time around and has decided that he will have your body dive right into contractions and keep going until that baby makes his/her grand entrance!
I know this pregnancy has been a struggle for you, so I hope you get to have some relief soon. Any way it happens though, all anybody wants is a healthy baby, so as long as your decisons are focused on that, I pray you get to have things go as you desire!!
keep us updated on what the doc says!!!

1Cor13 10-19-2006, 07:06 AM thanks amber
I know about the weight being off. since it was mesuring crown to rump on the u/s and its just a math guess. with dd he said about 10lbs and she was 9,3.. with my friend he was right on.
I hope its not 2 lbs the other way and shes 9lbs ALREADY at 36 wks!! yikes!!!
Well I keep praying the lord will let me go into labor early but hes not listening.
luvmy4sons 10-19-2006, 07:35 AM It is scary to decide to be induced. The whole process is painful. When you go into labor you have no choice, but to decide to go into that pain, no matter how inevitable, it causes some apprehension I think. I was induced for 2 of my babies and the other two came on their own. I thought that the inductions were more painful, but that is just me. I also wanted to be sure that my babies delivered before somethign happened to them inutero and I was following docs orders. Yet, every woman is different and even each labor can be different. God is in control, whether you end up induced or whether you doctor decides to induce or not or whether you go into labor naturally. It will all be good! And soon you will be holding that baby in your arms and it will all be forgotten. I keep praying. Big hug!
Well I keep praying the lord will let me go into labor early but hes not listening.
I know you are feeling tired, uncomfortable and frustrated. But I just had to say I don't believe this is true. He is most definitely listening. He hears every prayer. He sees the big picture and knows what is best. You just have to choose to trust in that. [hug]
mommyto3 10-19-2006, 09:46 AM i was induced with my first two, the first because of extremely high blood pressure (at 39 weeks) they gave me the gel at around 7 pm and told me that they would be in in the morning to start the pitocin. i went into labor around 1 am and never needed the pitocin. my second my water broke at 4 am and at 1 pm still had no contactions. they started the pitocin and my labour was only 6 hours, but his labor was much easier then with my daughter. for my last one at a 36 week ultrasound she was measuring 7 lbs and 8 oz. when i was at the doc at 39 weeks and 6 days, i basically begged for an induction date to be scheduled and he did, only 2 weeks later. . i was not happy. i thought they was no way i was going into labor on my own. BUT i did. she was born on her due date weighing ( 9lbs and 8 oz. just keep up thinking positively, and relying on God.
7thHeaven 10-19-2006, 11:42 AM I had to be induced 2 weeks early b/c of high Bp & concern of preclamsia(sp)? also, but I also had an epidural, so I didn't feel anything when they broke my water! I was induced on Mon at 10am and had her on Wed at 7pm. The medication for the Bp was apparently slowly everything down while they were trying to induce me! Fun huh!
I think every woman's labor is different, I watched lots of women go in after me and leave wayyy before me. Best of Luck to you hun! *Hugs*
