View Full Version : Not Quite TTC... ::snort::
But we're not trying to prevent either. So... I got my FIRST AF a week ago and am fighting mad that I only had three months "off". Ugh. Eliya is three and a half months now and I've had my first AF. Anybody else get their's this quickly? We are full time BF-ing and that's it... no bottles or anything. I don't get it. ::shrugs::
I thought I would have at LEAST six months. This same "fluke" happened with the twins... and I nursed them too. Weird, huh? I know you can have your AF without necessarily ovulating but I was wondering... if I'm already getting AF, should I be on the watch for a Positive pregnancy test? We always used some form of BC between each child, so this is all new to me. I was just wondering if the gals that keep up with this board would have any insight on this. Thanks in advance!
Skunkers 10-27-2008, 01:25 PM If you are not using BC then YES...you might watch out for BFP's!!!
Good to see you back :)
PianoMama 10-27-2008, 01:32 PM consider yourself a lucky lady!! With my 2 kiddos - I got my first ppAF at about 5 weeks after birth...and yes, I was exclusively BFing too...go figure!!
Reneemomto5 10-27-2008, 01:35 PM Yep what skunk said. I believe you can even get pregnant without AF and no birth control. Could be wrong here, we always used BC for spacing of the kids.
You go girl! I am happy to see you posting again too!
myjoyoverflows 10-27-2008, 01:36 PM Good to see you around!
I started my period back when Maddy was almost 4 months old...so I can understand...AND we were also only breastfeeding....sorry your break didn't last longer...but you certainly aren't alone!
Godzgirl 10-27-2008, 01:47 PM Awwww...i feel your pain Jen. I got AF about 2 months after having my kiddos and i was breastfeeding exclusively as well. I guess to some of us that just happens.:???:
mamallama 10-27-2008, 03:14 PM Same as the other girls...I remember getting AF quickly too. But can I just say I am so glad to see you posting again?!!!! We've missed you!! [loveyou]
Ashlee 10-27-2008, 03:23 PM Yep mine comes quick too.. no break for me.:(
So great to see you back Jen! We've all been missing you!!:-D
gamommyto4girls 10-27-2008, 05:06 PM Wow, that is fast! I usually could count on a 7-9mth break (basically until baby was eating substantial solids. So I would be on the look out for the +.
It's great to see you, BTW. We've missed you around here!
BlessedMommy 10-27-2008, 09:31 PM Jen, is your baby sleeping in a separate room and not nursing much at night? Does she take a paci? Those things can all affect timing of AF. Usually the thing that affects it most is the night nursing, though. I got my first AF at 19.5 months and she was still not STTN fully--but she had cut back on night nursing and was STTN some nights, as well as spacing out feedings more, and I think that triggered it.
If you want to possibly send AF back into hibernation, you could google "7 standards of ecological breastfeeding."
savedbygrace 10-27-2008, 10:28 PM I'm like Kate. With Abby and Josiah Af came the very next month after my bleeding stopped. I'm only BF as well. No BC here either, i'm just watching my cm.

We co-sleep, so she nurses all night long. I find it weird, too, that with all this nursing (on demand) that I started so soon!
I'm not really "concerned" about starting up again... I just wanted to see if I was a freak or something because my gal friends all start around six months to a year. I was starting to feel like I was a weirdo! Thanks for all the feedback! I appreciate it! Much Love!

Hehe...sometimes I felt like the other end of the spectrum, because some people think it weird or unbelievable to go over 1.5 years with no AF. :)
BlessedMommy 10-28-2008, 11:14 AM If you are nursing on demand, no bottles or pacis, no long separations from baby, and co-sleeping, etc. it's quite possible that you could have annovulatory cycles for at least a few months. Not a guaranteed thing, but often moms who do that style of breastfeeding and start their periods early, get at least a little time off from ovulating.

Thanks for the info!!! I was really surprised that I started instead of having Pregnancy symptoms... we seem to have NO trouble getting pregnant... so I figured I am just not ovulating... especially since I didn't have my tell-tale sign of ovulation which is pain in one side or the other or both... I just had a lot of cramping.
