I figured that if I had to learn how to tie my shoes by reading instructions, I still wouldn't know how to do it to this day. So I decided to just dive in and have fun sewing prefolds and if I messed up...oh well.

I got some flannel receiving blankets for my baby shower that I don't use much so I got them out and went to work. I cheated and used the center of a birdseye Gerber diaper for my center padding. Then when I was done, I sewed a "stay dry" liner to go with it. I heard the tip on the internet that Gerber EZ liners can be put together 4 at a time to sew a thick washable liner. I bought those liners before I knew nearly as much about CDing and before my baby was born. I mean, they're not flushable and who wants to throw a poopy liner in the trash? So I thought, hey why not try to use them? It'll be interesting to see how well they'll last in the wash.

So finally I had a functional prefold that was on pretty lavender fabric with a cute design. And not too long after I made it, Hannah needed a diaper change, so I got to put it on her. How fun! I think that this will probably turn into a hobby. Now I should learn how to sew wool soakers.....

I'm dying to know, how did it work?

It worked well! The only thing that I didn't really like about it was that it was a bit bulky. Other than that, no problems. Next thing, I'm going to try to sew fitteds.

Ooo fitteds are fun...challenging for the non-sewer LOL but fun

I've done a handful of those with whatever fabric I had around the house. As well as a couple of pull on covers. I may just try another wool cover myself here soon. As I just discovered a wool sweater of mine has a hole in it. It got snagged on something last year and well, it's just worse now, sooooo I may make some practical use out of it yet ;)
And I *think* I still have a snap set. We'll see how energetic I get here within the next week or so. But for now..must not think of that...must finish laundry LOL

Congratulations! - even for just finding the time to sew

You know, I was always such a bad sewer I brought "homemade" CD's from a lady off ebay and they are FANTASTIC. (She sewed them with pink terrytowel too!!!)

Hey. you know if you were ever short of cash I am sure you could make money out of your CD's on ebay -

How are you finding them?

you put me to shame, I am still in love with my home made (made by another woman LOL) and my Fluffies which are store bought.

Everyone is still trying to insist that sooner or later I will find them to be useless, so I am having to defend the things with glowing reports on how much i love them.

LOL, Em. That's too bad that people are so judgmental of CD's. Usually I get more curiousity and question when people see my Fuzzi Bunz.
