I have one Under the Nile terry cloth diaper. I loved this thing for night-time at first. However, Dainyah had a poopy in it, and now, I can not get the globs out of the terry. Does anyone have any suggestions? It has been through the wash twice now, and that didn't work (left horrible skid marks and the terry was clumped together where the mess was, and it is still colored like it is fresh poop in there). I currently have it soaking in hot water and dishwashing detergent in my sink. I think the next step will be scrubbing with an old toothbrush. However, if this is how I have to clean it everytime she has a mess in it, I think I will just stop using it. I use my fitteds at night (it is a fitted) so I don't have to worry about using the snappy and not getting it on right and then having to clean up her crib in the morning with the prefolds.

I suppose that you've probably already tried vinegar and Borax. I honestly have no idea. I don't even own any terry cloth diapers. I've been thinking about using Kissaluvs fitted for nighttime though. How do you like your fitted diapers? Do you have to change her in the middle of the night or can she go all night in one?

She could go a long while in the Under the Nile one. The other fitteds I have, I have no idea what brand they are. I've never seen them before. My MIL got them off ebay and the tags are faded horribly. They work, just not as long as the UTN. However, Dainyah isn't too fussy about being wet or too dirty. She's too laid back. I can get by with changing her once or twice through the night (started out changing her at night every time she woke to eat, but that would really wake her up and make her want to stay up). I did it once last night and didn't have any problems, but I used the prefolds for the first time.

And I have used borax and vinegar in both wash cycles. That along with the All free and clear, anti-allergen is all I use in the laundry anyway. Guess this diaper is out. I really liked it too. It absorbed well. But if this is the trouble I get when trying to wash it, I don't want to deal with it.

I have had a few days when I caved and used disposeables because I was exhausted. That, and people have given me some and I can't find anyone to give them too. Figured, may as well not let them go to waste....I have found that for the disposables, the Pampers Swaddlers work the best. I can't stand the white cloud, and Huggies, was ok, just I prefer the pampers. Just some info in case you need it.

I have used Huggies so far and they seem to work all right. Right now I'm using disposables for nighttime because it really exhausts me to change her several times at night. We've been getting more rest since I did that but I really want to use cloth at night--I just have to find something that works alright.

I got my disposables as gifts also. I don't think that I'll buy more once these run out. We'll see though.

did you rinse in cold water first? I mean, after it happened, when you changed her...a dunk/swish in the toilet, then to the diaper pail and wash as usual

that doesn't help you much now though does it? ;)

my motto....it's a diaper, they get dirty, oh well ;)

Tara, I changed that one at like three in the morning. Not like I was thinking about swhishing in the toilet..... I am surprised I can wake up to feed her and can get her changed at night. I have never been one to wake up too easily...

It wasn't that it was stained. I have no prob. with that, just that it globbed the terry cloth together and wouldn't wash. I did get it in the wash the first time the following morning, so it wasn't too set yet. Just it was being stubborn. I soaked it awhile in the sink and scrubbed the terry with an old toothbrush to get it to unmat. It worked, just I don't want to do that every time I wash this diaper. At least I only have the one!

I guess this diaper gets reserved for days when we go out and changing her would be hard since it can go quite a while before getting soaked all the way...I really liked it for it's absorbancy.

Time for a nap for me. I'm tired. Go figure.

Yeah, I can understand that. I wouldn't go through all that each and every time either. Maybe when you use that dipe from now on, throw in a fleece liner. You're still getting the awesome absorbancy you like from that one, but have the moisture wicking layer of fleece that will more easily shed messes. :)

Hadn't thought of using a liner. Where is my brain?!?!?!?! It isn't like I don't have any. My MIL got me like 30 hemp liners off ebay a month ago.....And I have some felted ones, and some full sized ones that are the size of my prefolds, and I have some fleece she cut for me to use as wipes, but they don't work for that. They just smear the mess around....Wonder if I trim them a little bit, if they'll work. Might try one and see. I've been using them to clean spit up instead....

I've taken to just before putting the dipes in the wash, to be spraying them down in the kitchen sink with hot water to get stuff off. I think that will work well, and would be much easier to work into a routine than swishing in the toilet. I hate flushing it at night, as it doesn't always stop running and I have to go back and wiggle the handle, and the toilet is loud, we can hear our neighbor's flushing and our bathrooms are on the same wall, and the upstairs bathroom is open to our bedroom, and sometimes when I flush, I wake up Peter, and he has a seven a.m. class.

I love the liner idea. Now, to figure out why I hadn't thought of that one before.....Guess I can chalk it up to fried mommy brain.

mmmm wow! I have never had this problem with my CD's!
Are you talking about one of those horrid muconeum poos?

I have a terry CD which is probably my favourite.., so I can understand your frustration over this

Vinegar??? mmm - bicarb?

This suggestion may seem unsual but a carpet cleaner once told DH that the way they get stains out of carpet is SALT! You wet the stain, put salt on it, allow it to dry with the salt and then clean the salt off - I have actually done this to one of DH's stained shirts and IT WORKED! I kid you not! We have also sucessfully removed red cordial marks from carpet with salt. worth a try!

Have you looked up natural remedies on the internet? They have some great words of wisdom which would honestly put the big cleaning product companies out of business.

Nope, it wasn't meconium. She stopped that about five days after birth, Thank God. Those were horrid. I used disposeable those days. And since she was in the hospital for four of them anyway....

I just brushed the terry out with an old toothbrush. That worked. I didn't rinse it out and chunks were left in the washer. I've learned my lesson....

I need to get to work. My SIL and her husband will be here tomorrow, and my mother on Tuesday with my sister. Oy vey.
