Today, DS and I went across the street to the park just like we have been ever since he started walking pretty good. Well, today, out of nowhere, he started choking! Immediately, I opened his mouth briefly and I think I saw something at the back of his throat... of course, he was fighting me like crazy, so I bent him forward and started hitting his back. He ended up throwing up, but there was nothing in his vomit that looked like what I saw. I'm assuming he swallowed whatever it was (if, indeed, it WAS something) and PRAYING it was just a small rock... I would prefer it be a rock instead of something weird like a pill of some sort! Has this ever happened to anyone? Will a rock come out?

I feel like a TERRIBLE MOTHER!!! I was watching that boy like a mother Hawk...how could he have snuck that by me?? Since he just learned how to walk about a month and a half ago, he still falls to his knees and hands (cause he won't let me hold his hand anymore...*sigh*). So I was thinking that maybe something stuck to his hand when he got up from the grass and he put it in his mouth before I brushed his hands?? Or maybe I missed it when I brushed his hands? I don't know...just please say a prayer that it wasn't anything bad and that he will pass it in the next couple of days... please pray for my peace in all of this too... I just feel awful.

TIA

Well, I know this has happened to every woman who has ever been a mother, so you are Not a bad mamma. Kids are sneaky like that too. They wait till you turn your back for a nanosecond. I will pray for you tho. **hugs**

Praying, that is scary. I totally agree with Gen though, you are NOT a bad mommy at all. Kids are sneaky, and you can't always stop every bad thing from happening, your a mom not a superhero after all.

And kids are quick! I was taking our two oldest boys for a walk when they were little. The oldest was maybe 3 and the younger was in a stroller. We're just walking along and in the blink of an eye, the oldest picks ups some ice melting pellets from the ground and "down the hatch". Sigh. So I quickly trundle them both home and call "Poison Control." He was fine. Little kids are always trying to put strange items in their mouths (or "into the lab" as a friend used to call it). And if it's not their mouths, it's their noses or their ears. You're not a bad mom, Gina; it's just normal life with a toddler. [hug]

I agree with all the moms above, this in no way makes you a bad mom. If he was able to swallow the rock don't worry it will come out adventually.

Let me tell you a story. When my 2nd son was about 8 months, he was eating a fruit oatmeal soft bar of berries. Well he finishes and I cleaned him up and while dressing him looked in his mouth there is a purple growth like at the roof of his mouth resembling a childs strawberry mark growth he had on him. I paniced called the dr., made an appointment, all the while checking his mouth over and over but would not touch it just in case, drove him up there (45 min trip), got him out of the car looked in his mouth it was gone. At that very moment it hit me, it was the bar he ate for breakfast! Oh my goodness, so I went into the dr. never revealing what I than knew what happen, I was sooo embarrassed I could have cried. They said just to keep an eye on the area and call if there were any concerning signs.

I left, hugged my baby boy and went home. Never even told hubby that happened, he traveled when my kids were small for months so he was none the wiser. Oy!

Anyway, not saying this is what happened to you by any means but we as moms are moms, things happen and we just try our best to watch it all. Hugs you are doing fine!

Oh I have other stories too, but it would just be a novel here, he he.

oh Israel you are absolutely not a bad mommy!! Oh my goodness I am sure all of us have a story of something similar. In April my ds ended up in hosp. overnight and having to have a broncoscopy b/c he choked on a sunflower seed and it ended up being aspirated into his lung!! Now that was all very weird and an accident!!
You are doing great, taking your ds to the park spending time with him! Hang in there, your doing an awesome job :-D

We've had 2 choking episodes in the past 2 weeks! They are so quick and think if it fits, it must go there, anything that touches Paytons hand he thinks he needs to eat it, yuck!

If you are concerned about what he ate keep an eye on him, if he shows signs of stomach cramping or gets other symptoms you may want to seek medical attention. You are not a bad mama!

Oh hunny you aint a bad mom, Sinead swallowed something and she was 4 years. I had to check her poo for 3 days to make sure it came out and it was this weird triangled metal thing. TBH it looked like the top of a bullet it was that shape so I have no idea what it was.

Just keep an eye on your little one, what ever he swallowed should come out but if he starts to feel unwell or look it take him to your local hospital.

Sending you loads of hugs though it can be such a scary thing to happen.

Don't feel bad, mom, childhood happens. My DD has a terrible habit of eating rocks, if that helps ease your mind I am not sure, but they pass is the good news.

Praying for both of you

Don't feel bad. Kids are very sneaky. It could very well have been something he picked up while you were still in the house. You never know. You can watch them like a hawk and they will still find things to get into. Mine have on occasion figured out ways around my child proofing locks. You are a very good mommy. These things just happen.

Thanks everyone. You all have made me feel much better and Israel has been fine. Haven't seen anything yet in stool, but he hasn't been ill at all. New mommy-of-a-toddler paranoia, I guess. I still have to get used to saying I have a toddler - obviously this comes with a lot of additional worries and concerns.

You've been great...thanks again for Your stories.

Glad Isreal is doing good. Your not a bad mama at all! Here is my story,
Josh had just had a toe poke to check his iron when he was probably around 8 months, and the nurse put a bandaid on his toe. I knew I needed to get that bandaid and told myself I would when we got home. When we got home it was gone so I thought it fell off in the car. 3 days later I was changing his diaper and there was spiderman staring me in the face!
