Good morning,

I have a question about breastfeeding-I have been having some colon issues and have come across a "recipe" for homemade colon 'cleanse' and wonder if it will go through my breastmilk and cause problems in dd. The ingredients have flaxseed, metamucile, papaya and cranberries-I would like to try this to see if it helps me, but I just don't want to cause her to possibly have diahrrea; so I will hold off until I'm done with breastfeeding her if this is going to cause her problems.

Also, can I drink decaf green tea sweetened w\splenda while breastfeeding? I haven't drank any since I before she was born and since the mornings are getting cooler now; I am really missing my cups of warm tea in the morning and was just wondering.

TIA :)

I personally wouldn't use Splenda. I know what they say about it, but at the same time, I figure that they had to do something to take the sugar and make it free of calories. It can't be natural.

I'm not the expert on nutrition at all. I drank all sorts of caffeinated things while pregnant and nursing. But I did read that caffeine aids with growth after birth. That those nursing preemies are encouraged to drink caffeine. But if decaf is what you normally want, then no worries there. I think you should be fine to drink your green tea though.

Again, I'm not an expert. You might try it and babe won't like it and she'll let you know! lol.

I don't think I would do the cleanse though. I was playing with the idea of doing a cleanse and wanted to wait until I was done nursing. I'm done nursing and still haven't done the cleanse! LOL. It just didn't sound like a good idea to play around with my body like that when it was nourishing another!

Dittoing Jay here....

Not diggin' the cleanse idea, I wouldn't do that with a nursing babe.

Decaf tea would be fine...but no Splenda. Sugar or honey to sweeten ;) I don't dig artificial sweeteners at all.

I wouldn't cleanse while nursing either. If you are um, backed up, maybe lots of fruit and/or oatmeal and drinking alot of water would help?

I wouldn't use splenda, either. Just honey or a dash of unrefined "raw" sugar if you are avoiding refined sugars.

Thank you for your help, ladies :) The lady down at the Health food cupboard I went to that gave me the recipe said it would be just fine to use it while nursing and it just didn't seem right to me, so I went to the experts to find out if my hunch was right. :)

Thank you for the green tea advice also; I didn't even think that Splenda would be bad for her; I'm glad I asked before I endulged. I will be using just plain ol' sugar to sweeten it until I stop nursing her.

Thank you for all your help!!!!
