View Full Version : Silly quandry about how many weeks I am

Okay, here's the deal, at about 2 weeks past ovulation or 14 DPO a woman is 4 weeks pregnant, right? Well, according to that, I should be 18 weeks pregnant. I tested positive at 11 DPO and the online calculators informed me that I was 3 weeks pregnant. Well, that's not possible, as you can't generally even get a positive on an HPT at one week post conception. I should have been 3 weeks, 4 days. I understand why they did that--my due date is on a Thursday, and I would have been 14 DPO on a Sunday, hence the 4 day discrepancy, but how in the world can I accurately figure how many weeks I am? (18 weeks vs. 17 weeks, 3 days)

Don't take the the wrong way Ruth...but honey, with only a 4 day difference....don't worry about it if ya ask me! LOL....it is their closest guess anyway, even ultrasound dating isn't entirely on and can be off by a few days due to the differences in each baby's size/dev/etc! You're within a week and that is a lot closer than some people ever get!
My only advice if you REALLY have to know is look at when you BD if you kept track of that and go from that date....if there was a specific time anyway that wasn't with a lot of other BD times...

How can you get pregnant before ovulation? If you are 14 DPO, then wouldn't you be just a little bit shy of 2 weeks pregnant, depending on when exactly conception occurred? That makes pregnancy only 38 weeks instead of 40 too.
Many of the online calculators, and doctors offices count to you last menstrual date, but you wouldn't have been pregnant that day. So there is two weeks of pregnancy that you aren't actually pregnant!
The online calculators also don't take into account the length of your cycle. If O was delayed that month or something, then it could make it wonky.
Ask your midwife maybe.

Yes, if you go by actual weeks that you are pregnant, you would be 2 weeks pregnant, but obviously they add in the extra two weeks!
I was charting accurately and I know when my mucus patch and thermal shift occured, know when BD happened, know my correct due date based off of O date rather than LMP, it's just that the online calculators seem to want to round down the days. I'll see what my midwife's pregnancy wheel says.
ETA: If you went by my LMP, I would be due February 14 rather than February 26. Good thing that I was charting.

It's not a guess, since I was charting and know my precise time of thermal shift/mucus/BD. So my due date is accurate, I'm just trying to figure out which amount of weeks I am, based on that date. Clear as mud, lol?

Alright, I checked out a chart with the online calculators and that makes the most sense to round it to work out better in weeks, so I updated my ticker. Not that it changes my due date or that I was unsure of it, I just wanted to have a definite answer when someone asks me how far along I am. LOL.
Thanks for your input, ladies.
