View Full Version : And finally the news about me

Our internet routed decided to go out on Wed. night. Talk about frustrating. We did decide to go ahead with the induction on Friday. Dainyah Grace finally arrived at 4:46 p.m on Friday, September 29th. The labor was horrible. The pitocin was started at about ten after seven. The contractions started soon after. At least that is what the monitor said. I never felt the acutal contractions. At about nine thirty, I felt the pressure of the baby being pushed into my pelvic floor. I guess that about ten, the pain from the pressure of Dainyah was so bad, I was asking to be shot. It got so bad, that I ended up going for some staydol. That makes me hallucinate. Peter said I only did it once. However, from about nine thirty on that day, it is a total blur. I moaned during every contractoin from then until I had to push. I apparently screamed a few times. I said ok, I am done, I'm going home now. To which, I was told that since we started this, we couldn't stop it. I begged the pitocin to be turned down. Once the contractions got established, (the nurse said I was in active labor starting at nine thirty when that happened) they came two minutes apart, and each contraction lasted a minute and a half until I delivered. At about eight thirty that morning, my midwife came in and tried to break my water. She couldn't. Dainyah had corked herself so well into my pelvis that there was no water between her and the sac and Valerey couldn't hook it. At about one thirty or so, (I have no real concept of much in the line of time here), they decided I was dilated to a ten. They called Valerey to come back in (she was at the office) and she came running. However, they decided my cervix still had a lip to it at the front. So, I had to gently push during he contractions to get it to go away. That hurt a lot. Then, that was cleared up at about 3:20. Valerey came back over and it was time to push. It was figured that my water would break when I started pushing because of how Dainyah was so tight on the sac. It didn't happen. So, as she was trying to decend the birth canal, they had to take giant syringes of mineral oil and squirt me up to get her to squish out. Then, she was in the canal so long, her heart rate kept dropping. The time it went down to 65, they threw me on oxygen to help keep it up. Then, because it kept dropping so bad during each contraction, they asked if they could put an internal monitor in. I agreed. So, they got her hooked up and were like, if there is no water when we put this in, we will have some severe problems. At this point, Peter was really starting to get freaked out. The water did break when they put in the monitor. Then, she was descending a little faster. However, the right side of my birth canal wouldn't relax at all between contractions to let her out. So, that meant more hands up in there to coax her out, more mineral oil, and I really started to tear. Peter said I was gushing bright red blood every time I pushed. At this point, he was thinking I was in for an emergency c-section. I was so out of it and in so much pain, I just wanted her out. So, Valerey told me that I was already starting to tear, and that she could do an episiotomy if I wanted, I didn't have to, but it would go a little faster since she did know I didn't want one. I agreed. So, she shot me full of novacaine and did it. I still ended up with a second degree tear and about 20 stitches. Valerey ended up having to stitch me up before she could deliver the placenta because I was bleeding so badly. Then, she tried pulling the placenta out and the cord started to break off, so I had to push it out.

She weighed 7 lbs, 12 oz, was 20 and a 1/4 inches long and had a 13 cm circumfranced head. Even though I have compared the experience to Dante's Fifth Infero, I would do it all over again. And right afterwards, I swore I wouldn't have any more, I look forward to giving her siblings.

We got ready to come home on Sunday when the peditrician on call decided that her tests weren't normal. So she threw her on two antibiotics and a whole host of monitors and drew what felt like gallons of blood. I got dischagred on Sunday, but roomed in that night. They were running a 48 hour blood culture. Yesterday, her ped. said things were looking fine, but the culture wasn't done until this morning. He discharged her then. Said she was in perfect health, no jaundice (unlike the on call ped who said she'd need phototherapy this week).

If you want to see pics, click on the www button in this post. Then, click on the link to Dainyah's page. You'll see pics from the birth to yesterday.

Talk to you later. Gotta get supper.

Thanks all. Dainyah is such a sweetie pea.

My MIL is here to help out for a while. She wasn't going to come for a week or so, however, I got myself banned from driving with the delivery. Not supposed to for two to four weeks. All because I swore I wasn't in pain upon discharge (only if I sit too long, especially in a hard chair) and refused a script for pain meds. However, if I had accepted the script for pain meds, I would have been banned then too. I think that if I am feeling ok come Thursday, I am calling my midwife (she isn't the one who discharged me, the other one in the office did because mine went on a trip for her first wedding anniversary right after we were done)

I honestly think Dainyah looks more like my husband....She ended up inheriting all my medical anomalies it seems like. .

She has taken to nursing like a fish to water. I am so glad. That doesn't really hurt much at all either. Except for the engorgement that happened yesterday. And of course, she wasn't that hungry with the iv's going in. I was pretty miserable.

Well, somone is deciding she needs fed again. I'm going to go and do that and then go to bed. I am tired after this whole ordeal.

Thanks all.

I think I got most of the birth story in there. I know I left stuff out after I reread that. Oh well, don't want to freak out other first timers too badly.....

Dainyah is such a good little girl. She sleeps a lot, rarely cries and is just so cute. And she has been pretty good with grandma posing her for countless pictures (granted, it is driving me nuts). However, she has been pooping a lot, and I mean more than I think she should be, and it is more runny than I think it ought to be, but that is probably from all the antibiotics they had her on (it was either anacef or ampicillian [can't recall which, but it did start with an a] along with gentimycian (which we found out could cause deafness when we were told we couldn't go until after she had another hearing test, to which we replied that she had already passed one, and was told that the gentimycian could make one go deaf. Nice to know they risked her hearing like that without telling us. All for the sake of "safety" when her counts were in the normal range, just on the low side. Like her mom!!!!)

I was wrong on one count though. Peter had posted her coming home in the car pics from yesterday. I was napping when he did that and didn't know he had. No new ones from today though (he is way too camera happy.....and just a tad bit proud of his daughter)

I need to get going before grandma and Peter gets back. He took her to the mall this evening after supper. I had the option of going too, but she is starting to make me go up the wall. I think that will belong in the gripes page though.

Guess it is time to move to the baby thread. Thought that would never come....

Wow! You're such a trooper. Isn't it amazing how those sweet little babies help us to forget labor?

We'll be glad to have you join us in the baby thread!

Hey Crystal
I am so glad you are enjoying your little girl!
Just FYI....breastfed baby poop is totally runny. It's like yellow water, just this side of thicker than water. I think that's why it tends to go up their backs, down their legs, and all over people holding them! LOL! I don't think Emma's poop thickened until we gave her teething tabs...and I think that was due to the stuff in the tabs just causing a bit of thickening, but it was still runny! Not only is it really really runny, they poop A LOT! Now, Emma has always spaced her poop out, and Kefir cleared that up, but everyone else's baby that I know pooped a lot. Sometimes everytime they fed. They have this reflex that makes them poop when they eat....it's so funny to see them scrunch up when nursing and then make the sound like a cappacino machine...haahaa!!

If you are worried though, have the doc check her out......that's why they are there!! :-D

I'm so sorry they gave your baby drugs that could have made her go deaf, and not even tell you that before they gave it to her! I hope you get your wish next time around, and get to homebirth. You deserve a peaceful birth!!!

Have a great day!

Amber

Boy, am I behind in the news! I was reading your "stinky pillow" thread, Crystal, and you said something about "the arrival of the baby". I thought, "She had the baby?" Congratulations and welcome to your new little girl! :D

[rofl] Every single time that Abby pooped it always went up her back. I was kinda glad when I had to start her on solids bcuz I didn't have to hose her down anymore. And I totally understand what you mean by cappucino machine, amber. It's like an explosion in their diaper. I didn't think babies could have such force.

The first real poop diaper that Peter changed was hilairous. We thought she was done, and he put a blanket down on the floor and got the dirty one off. When, she curled up and lifted her tush and let him have it. All over the blanket, carpet, his arms, his leg. I was sitting on the couch and about died laughing. I had to do the laundry from it though.

He's learned to wait a few minutes after her sound effects (though, in the past day, she's not made the cool ones as much) to make sure she's done. I don't blame him.
