have any of your children ever had mollescum spots. my daughter is very suseptable to gettting them. my doc explained that sometimes kids get them after a cold virus. my daughter is 6 and had 1 large one on her nose. it swells up bright red, and then will go back to skin color. we now noticed that she has another small one.
do you know of any creams that might work. she has had the one on her nose for well over a year now (almost 14 months). they usually go away on there own in 6-9 months.

I haven't heard of them either. Are they kind of like herpes or cold sores? Stephanie :D

Hi mommyto3! :)

I don't know much at all about Mollescum, except that it's a viral infection and very contagious. I found a product on line that's supposed to help, but having no personal experience with this, I don't know how well it works.

Blessings. Hope you find a cure soon. [prayer]

Both of my girls get them. They are around kids all of the time, but they haven't given it to anyone as far as I know. (Obviously my older one gave it to baby sister)

Our pediatrician said he would pop his daughters' to get the core out. I'm figuring out now that that is not a great idea. We did it once and my older daughter still has a red mark on her face.

I also know a nurse who got a prescription for something that cost about $100 for a month supply and it did nothing. So, we started out saying we would let it run its course, but now we are looking into finding a topical treatment.

Oh, one pediatrician said that very fair skinned kids are more susceptible. We are definitely that!!

I had a mullescom on my arm once! I was working in a nursery for the summer and had just one dot on my arm, looked like an ingrown hair. I just ignored it and then about five months later I got a cyst underneath it as my body formed a natural defense against something "foreign". They had no idea what it was (b/c they are much mroe common in kids) and I got a biopsy on it. Turns out all you have to do is pop it and they will go away. I have a small scar on my arm to tell the story.

Sorry to hear that your daughter still has a red mark - have you thought of asking a dermatologist their advice? My derm is the one that did my whole procedure - they might have some more ideas on getting rid of them. Good luck!

When they go away on their own they are never seen of again. I don't want anyone to pop them because my kids would have scars all over their body. We're kind of done with doctors on this.

kwynn has never passed them on to her siblings either. we don't want to pop them as i was told that this is what could spread them even more. she too is very fair. ( in fact we use to call her our pale pale killer whale) also don't want to pop them in case they leave scars. the spots are on the bridge of her nose and are very visible. we have an appt with the doc to see if we can get a referral to a dermatologist (?)

One son had them. Told me it was a virus and would run its course and never return. Sure enough...a month or so later they were gone and we have never seen hide nor hair since! :D

I was curious about these and did a search on them. Lots of good information out there.

I have not had an issue since the one on my arm, but they are much more common in kids. Adults can get one, but their immune systems usually kick right in. I agree, I'm not such a fan of popping thigns even if that's what the doc recommends...
