Ok Mady started school this past week and has been taking her lunch but like today she came home with her peanut butter sandwich untouched yet she took 3 bites of a banana and ate a small cookie. I ask her why and she says I don't know....last year at SonShine Preschool she always ate her lunch so I don't get it....she is not a veggie eater and not much of a fruit eater....I need some ideas....o yea and she doesn't like cheese either...so yea there ya go

We let her eat at school one day and it was a good lunch...i asked her if she politely asked the lunch ladies not to put gravy on her taters and she said they didn't I asked how many chicken nuggets she ate...1 why Mady they were mushy not crunchy like i like was her response....and since your taters didnt have gravy I assume...yea big mistake you ate them...uh only a few bites....so we are no longer eating at school I am not throwing away $2 for that.....so HELP

Oh my, not much help, have you asked her what she would prefer?! Maybe she could give you some ideas?

Not sure what to suggests, I am making sandwhichs with pitta breads which make pocketts. She is then taking raisins, carrot sticks and a piece of fruit.

Also she will have cucumber and tomatoes in her buttys as well but over here the kids have to have healthy lunches. (a huge pain in the bum )

What about crackers or something like that, not sure what to suggest.

it sounds super mean, but honestly, with Gabe, we went through the same thing a few years ago, and every year since during about the second or third week of school (so it should be happenin' soon!) I just tell him, he can take his lunch, or he can get lunch at school. If he choses not to eat, that's his business, but don't come home expecting food. He'll eat again at dinner time. He refused to eat lunch for a few days, but once he realized that mama meant it, he eats. He'd rather not be hungry. He also learned that chef salad with chicken tender pieces isn't that bad. He's developed a liking for a few foods, so it's helped a lot, but he's still picky, and if he don't eat dinner, gets cereal, but that's another ball game. LOL

I would talk to your daughter's teacher. Maybe your daughter needs a little encouragment to eat. She may be busy talking with friends or watching others and forget to eat before time runs out. Also, make sure she has enough time to eat. Some schools tend to rush kids in and out to fast for my liking. And keep it easy and think non traditional. Pack a baggie of popcorn, or make cookies filled with healthy stuff like fruit and nuts. Grapes or cherry tomatos are easy too. Or, even a baggie with dry cereal would give her a dose of nutrition until she got home. How about some type of breakfast/granola bar? Maybe she would like a wrap cut into bite size thirds better than a sandwhich. Most kids under 8 tend to disect sandwhichs, they take off the crust, take off the cheese, then they just end up with bread that they don't finish. HTH

One thing I have done is, if their lunch comes home untouched, their afterschool snack is their lunch. After a few days of soggy sandwiches and cookies, they have learned to eat it at school. Make sure you are packing portions she can finish and I think variety is the key. Does she like yogourt? Something my son likes (sounds gross to me,but it's nutritional), is to take a wrap, put peanut butter on it and a banana and then roll the wrap up. You could use half a banana if she isn't a big eater.

we had that issue with my now 8 yo dd.( and still do some days) we get her involved in making lunch choice and if the food comes home uneaten, then she eats it for supper, before getting anything else.

I will definately try some of these ideas you ladies have shared with me they sound great...thank you all

Aww this just makes me so sad LaDonna. I see Mady is the same age as my Lukas, he turned 5 on January 31. Anyway just take it slow, its an adjustment for everyone. Soon she'll get into the swing of things and maybe be more able to tell you what she likes and eats and even chose to eat the school lunches. It takes time, just be patient. Some are just picky eaters as well.

Yes she is definately my picky eater.....Emma on the other hand if it sits still long enough she just might eat it.....lol. She tries anything. I am hoping we are able to get it under control because in about 3 wks is when we move to the new house and that means a new school...so I know we will get through this I just hope it doesnt start back up again when we move....I know it does it makes me sad that she didn't want to tell me this the other day.....but she finally told her daddy tonite....poor baby

My son Stephen sometimes has a hard time pooping. I use Benefiber...I place a teaspoon in his milk in the morning and at night. It helps move it along...KWIM? anyway...try it. It helped my son.

As far as lunches, Stephen has a hard time deciding on lunch. I give him two choices from home, or buy lunch at school. They usually give the kids 2 choices at school, as well as PB&J. So he literally has 5 choices to pick from.
Today, he wanted 2 slices of raisn bread, carrot sticks and cucumbers. I also gave him a fruit cup. so that's not bad for a 5 yr old i think. He also has to take a snack to school because they eat lunch at 11:15am. I have to pack a snack, because they eat snack in the classroom and cannot go to the cafeteria to buy it. So i give him two choices for a snack as well.
too many choices, and it's difficult for them to choose i think.

Have you tried those lunchables? some of them are pretty good.

Yes we use Benefiber....when I can remember....lol. We don't do lunch at school because I don't want to waste $2 KWIM.....So she normally takes a pb sandwich or a lunchable. Way to go you for having a 5 yr old carrots and cucumbers....
