Over the weekend DS who is 4 starting blinking his eyes rapidly and often throughout the day. I'm getting a little scared from what I've read about it on the internet. The diagnosis is everything from a nervous habit to emotional issues to the beginning of Tourettes syndrome. I obviously will be taking him to the doctor should it keep up. I was just wondering if any of you ladies have dealt w/ it or know someone who has. Thanks!

Did he hit his head any time recently? It could be neurological or it could be as simple as he got a scratch on his eyes and that is irrating him.

My oldest did this as well. I though torrets right away and was so scared. Took him to the eye dr., he was fine. I video taped it too. It continued to get worse over a year.

As he got older he started having other tics as well. It was all stemming from school for my son.

Here is was linked with my sons learning disabilities and he had a processing disorder, ADD and a host of other learning disabilities. Not saying this is linked sometimes kids develop nervous habits and they do go away.

But when my 3rd son developed facial tics I watched and after a year with the same nervous facial tics and other struggles with his academics I had a feeling he was like his brother. And he is, processing.

This is for my children though. I just wanted to tell you my examples. From what I have researched its my children becoming "overloaded". I have learned ways to help them relax and bring the tics to a minimum. Plus therapy helped my oldest a lot, physical therapy.

With seeing a new therapist this winter I hope she can even help me further since their approach deals with the processing center of the brain.

Pm me if you want to know anything further. I say just document it and keep and eye on it, consult your ped and don't overwhelm yourself. Easier said than done I know, it could just be a phase too and nothing more.

hugs and prayers

Thank you ladies. It hasn't been as bad today. He did not hit his head recently either. Like I said I will definitely be taking him to the pediatrician if it continues.

He could have gotten a scratch on his eye as was mentioned or he could have and ingrown eye lash or something. He may also have allergies that are making them itch or he could have dry eyes. I wouldn't worry about it, unless it gets worse or he starts doing something else. There are a lot of harmless reasons for it too.
