so Abby hasn't pooped in a few days. But the last few times that she pooped it was quite solid so yesterday and today I put prune juice into her food to help her bowels move. But both yesterday and today she has grunted and acted like she was pooping but when I went to change her nappy there was nothing there. By her facial expressions I was expecting there to be a really big surprise for me but nope :( Plus both yesterday and today she was sick and she's not normally a sicky baby. So I don't know what is up with her. Anyone got any advice? Should I call the afterhours health services or do you think it could wait until Monday and I speak to my health visitor? I'm quite worried bcuz usually the prune juice helps but it hasn't this time. And I don't know if it's just constipation or if it's something serious. Maybe I'm worrying too much. Please help if you can! [whathelp]

Both of my kids went through periods of constipation when they were little. When they were still taking bottles I would put a little (approx. 1 tbsp) of Karo Syrup in their bottle and it would help their bowels to move.
Best of luck!

There are pediatric suppositories for babies. I would be careful of Kayro syrup. I know a lot of people do this but I know of one child who got botulism from it. I would most definitely call your pediatrician and ask for his opinion. It can likely wait till Monday but if not call the on call doctor. That is what they are paid for! They don't mind keeping you waiting when you come for your appointments! Right? Probiotics can help. You can open an acidophilus capsule into the prune juice. It is completely safe. These are the good germs in our body that help it do what it is supposed to do. :D

Is Abby better today? I hope she found relief. Stephanie :D
Hi Steph thanks for asking. She pooped like 3 times today, it was still quite solid but I will still give her a bit of prune juice to see if that softens it up a bit. But I'm happy that her bowels are moving. Again, thanks for asking!

Good to hear that, my sisters little girl has been having similar problems to-day. My mum gave her a hot bath and rubbed her stomach and it helped her bowels to move. Sorry if that is too much info. but I hope it helps!

Gee, what is this bowel problem week? Bri, the one year old, is runny and agitate today, and Patrick, 2 weeks, isn't completely constipated, he looks like he's passing "rabbit droppings".
I'm just going to give him a little while and see what happens, may give him some grape juice or something. (Ped. told us that grape juice is easier on the littler kids than the pruce juice.)
Hope all our babies get feeling better soon!

When both my boys was old enough to eat it, popcorn did wonders for their bowel movements! The ped recommended it as a good source of fiber! :D

Wow never heard of the popcorn. I know when my girls were little we had very little constipation problems. When we did I would let the soak in a warm bath as this helps relax the rectal muscles so they go poop or we did a little bit of the Karo it always worked and we never had a problem using it either. My gmther and mom used Karo when we were all little and it always worked. Glad to hear she is pooping that can be really hard to watch when they try so hard and nothing happens.

Our dd was constipated too, so we also had to resort to a suppository once as well, and on a regular basis we will give her some frozen yogurt with a bit of the baby food pureed on top, that seems to keep her going well, she has the same problem that when she goes it is hard and solid. This seems to help out a lot.
